DSDP won't add air until after retracting jacks
The instructions I received from Newmar to bring in the slides on my 2017 DSDP 4369 was to start the engine, air up, retract the jacks then bring in the slides. However, my coach will not air up until after I retract the jacks. Is that normal? A safety feature perhaps? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Allworths
Retract jacks first, start engine wait till you are aired up completely ( hear the air pop) Turn off engine, bring slides in.
We do not move our slides without, first checking gap on all three slides and doing it aired up. Hope that helps

Really appreciate everyone's advice. So the fact I can't add any air before retracting the jacks is normal?

allsworth- Yes that's normal- once you push the button on your HWH leveling system to level the coach, you dump all the air bags & those valves stay open until you hit the jacks - retract button. You will not be able to build up suspension air until you do so- retract the jacks.
Happy Trails

Yes. If you’re aired up, that makes the jacks extend another 6 inches or so for no benefit and that first step is a lulu.

Thanks for that description. It makes perfect sense now. I could have avoided all this confusion if I had received accurate advice in the beginning. I'm so glad I have this forum to help get me straight.

That’s the correct procedure, but you don’t wait to air up.
Start the coach, hit the jacks retract and once they’re up, the coach will air up.
Jacks up air up all together, no sequence easy to remember, right?
Air up jacks up still works even if you get it wrong. 😂

DSDP won't add air until after retracting jacks
I'm remembering an 'Auto Store' button that does both - begin to retract the jacks and air up simultaneously. I was told to hit this button and wait until suspension is full aired (dryer releases air - jacks are retracted by then) and at ride height before pulling slides in.

Does the procedure that you are all agreeing on here - jacks up, air up, slides in - apply even it it puts the coach back in a significant unlevel position before you pull in the slides?

On our 17 DS freightliner chassis we turn on engine, hit cruise, & resume button. It will then partially air up which helps before retracting jacks so there's no "drop" when jacks start to retract. Lastly once jacks are completely up the coach airs up the rest the way.

I was told to do the same. Start engine, hit "auto store" & that retracts jacks & allows suspension to come up to ride height. Then I kill engine & bring in slides.

The slides are adjusted at the factory with air bags full, so yes, even if the coach is not level the slides and frame are together.
The turn engine on and hit cruise and resume gets the engine to idle faster, thus putting air into the bags quicker. So if you’re in a hurry, that can help.
Enigine on, cruise resume or not, auto store, have a coffee, beer if you’re from Maine.
Engine off, slides in. Unhook Sewer, Water, and Electric, pedal to the metal.
Start singing “ on the road again” two verses.

My 14 year old coach has the HWH Model 310, manual leveling system.
According to the manual(s)
- retract slides
- start engine to begin building air (in the bags)
- immediately press "|" to turn ON the leveling system
- press the "STORE" button
- wait for red warning lights to extinguish and leveling system to turn "OFF"
This has worked for me since purchase of the coach.
The only downside is the obnoxious warning buzzer upon engine start, until all jacks have been retracted.
