DTV hook-up with 18" Round Dish

Hi,

I just finished getting my home Genie working in my RV using my original 18" round dish and wanted to pass along some observations.

My setup has a dual LNB, but only one RG6 cable, so using the SWM 8 and Pwr Inserter 29 I had to choose between the 13V or 18V input. I tried the 13V first and was able to get good signal strength on all the odd transponders (90+), but didn't get any channels? Switched to the 18V input got similar strength on all the even transponders and most of the channels worked. The odd ones that didn't give me 771 no sat signal error, which I think makes sense since I expect those channels are on the other transponders.

What I thought was odd was the fact I didn't get any using the 13v input?

Other things:
My angle indicator needed a 9v battery inserted, then it worked fine.
The azimuth indicator is off about 15* which made it difficult to align, I used my smart phone with a compass app to go on top and align the dish, worked like a champ.

If anyone knows of a solution for the single cable that can get me both transponders I'd be interested. I don't want to run a second cable and am not interested in upgrading to HD at this time. I'm actually happy with what I have working (Golf Channel works).

It was a fun way to spend my Saturday morning and I believe successful.

If you can get another cable out of the dish, you could mount the SWM-8 on the roof and not have to run another cable into the RV. Might be as simple as removing the LNB from the end of the arm and running a short cable down the arm to the base.

He's using DTV (DirecTV) with a Genie receiver, not Dish Network.

Hadn't thought of that option, which is totally feasible and may even solve the issue of needing to keep the SWM 8 in cool open environment. I'll give that a test run tomorrow!

Checked today and it is actually a single LNB, so I ordered a new one from Ebay specific for 18" SAT 101* for just over $10 with free shipping.

What should I use to attach the SWM8 if I don't want to use screws and puncture my roof?
