Dual Fuel

I have a question that has come up around our campfires. For those with duel fuel caps that mostly refuel at Truck Stops, do you use the satellite pump and fill from both sides at the same time? Do you do this every time or just occasionally? Are there reasons for not doing this? I'm just curious how many do and how many don't.

I never use the passenger side fill port. Filling up utilizing the high volume pumps at truck stops (the only places I fill) doesn't really take that long. Why use a pump on the opposite side of where you have to enable the pump?

I use the truck stop lanes probably 99% of the time and only used regular stations in Canada and Alaska. There have been posts about the fuel port on the passenger side is lower than on the driver's side and fuel spilling out on the passenger side if they had the right side cap off. I can fuel quicker than a truck so I am not there long.

I agree. I never use the passenger side as it's a good 8-10" lower than the driver's side unless I have no choice. I did have to fill from that side one time due to pump access but could not get a full fill due to the lower port. Also, don't leave that one open for air exit while filling or you'll have a "dieselfall" on that side!

No, it takes no time to fuel from the drive side, I the it’s there in case you are at a regular station so you don’t have to make u turn to fuel up, but in a truck stop it’s useless

I fill from either side. Which ever is available to pull up to. No issues filling a 150 Gallon tank.

I agree I fill from whichever side works out best (one stop last year only the satellite pump worked at the island I was at).

But only one side at a time. I listen for the sound change as the tank gets full and that’s when I slow down from truck speed to regular speed so I don’t have a mess to clean.

I use what ever side is easier but never use both pumps. Only want to clean one mess.

No. Always one side only. Usually the driver’s side. My tank is only 100 gallons.

I just use the driver’s side to fill, but it seemed like even on the slowest setting, that I was getting fuel splash back, just as the pump clicked off. Last time that I filled up, I opened the passenger side to see if that would allow the air to be vented out of the tank (100 gallons) and that seems to solve the problem.

We only fuel on one side, which ever works out closest to the pumps. I run OrtiLube additive, so I add that on the opposite side.

In 11 years I've only fueled from the passenger side once. It was because the driver side pump was not working and I didn't feel like going to another pump.

Trucks are fueling separate tanks when pumping from both sides. In the case if the RV you would be pumping into the same tank... not a great idea
