Dual zone heat pumps on 2013 Ventana

We have a 2013 Ventana 3634. It has two roof airs. When I have the front (zone 1) off and the rear heat pump on to warm the rear to take a shower, warm air also comes out the ceiling vents in the front. Just checking if this is normal.

Don't know about the Newmar, but on my Zephyr, when using any of the units, air comes out of all vents. This is very nice as on a cool or warm day, I can cool, or heat the coach using one unit. Cuts the noise down. If necessary, I can add another zone. So, I think this is by design.

Yes, the duct is common to all the heat pumps.

Yep, as mentioned above, our 2012 DSDP works the same way.

Thanks for the quick replies. It makes sense. Still learning all the details on the new coach. We've had Winnebago products for the last 12 years.

The previous posters have it right; there are no partitions in the ducts between the front and rear heat pumps. Winnebagos of course have the single-unit Carrier basement air system, which is totally different.

I think someone found out that a non-Newmar coach didn't have plugs in the ends of the ducts; that may be worth checking out. That person simply plugged the ends of the ducts from inside with crack-filler foam.

Our Grand Star also has the full length air tubes for both the forced air and the return air on both heat pumps. I wish it had vents that could be closed so as to reduce noise...meaning (for example) in the evening when up and around watching TV turn off unit 1, turn on unit 2, close the vents in the BR/Bath, forcing the air into the front area from the rear unit..and reverse at night thus reducing noise...

I would think so since the heat pumps and air cons are mounted in exactly the same way to the same ducting!

Curt I think you can have close vents on the ceiling air vents to direct more air from the rear AC to front of coach or vise verser.
I'll try to find them. CONTROL CEILING VENTS
You only need the out going vents, returns should not effect the operation.
The returns also remember have the foam filter.
The ceiling ducts go full front to back.
If you ever need the AC replaced make sure this PIB is followed.

Our 2013 Canyon Star 3940 has two ceiling ducts running the full length of the ceiling...one for delivery and one for return, and, yes, the air from the front AC/Heat Pump passes through the full length as does the rear unit. I tried inserting an "air dam" in the delivery duct to separate the zones but I do not believe that I was helping the situation. As mentioned it is nice to run the rear unit when sitting in the front of the coach and run the front when sleeping or otherwise needing conditioned air in the rear. Really cuts down on the noise.
I had thought that it would be nice to have vent grills that could be closed off to direct the air with more precision. Thank you to 007 for posting the link for the vent grills. I am pretty sure we will order the controlable grills.
Also, be very sure to clean the sponge filters in the return ducts from time to time. Our coach was only two months new and I removed the return filters only to find that they we completely coated with "dust". We keep the coach in an enclosed building and the windows are closed most of the time so I must conclude that they picked up some serious dust before we delivery. But it may simply be that they work well and just need frequent cleaning.
Thanks again 007 for the tip on where to get the fully controlable vent grills.

+1 to that.

007 ... your ability to "find things" never ceases to amaze me. I bet if you still used filing cabinets, you would need an entire warehouse to store your information.

Thanks for all you do for us!

CONTROL CEILING VENTS
D&W will sell direct, by the way. That's how I got my replacement vents a few years ago. If only they would use a plastic that doesn't deteriorate into eggshell...

Where exactly are the foam filters located?
