Dutch Star 4018 1/2 Bath Vanity Door Mod...

The mirrored vanity door in the 4018 half bath has just been a silly annoyance, at least for me. I don't know if all of them were installed the same way, but the hinge was placed on the right side as you face the mirrored door. For a big guy like me, it seems like I have to step all the way into the half bath to easily access the vanity interior. The door should have been installed with the hinge on the left, wall side, so it opened toward the wall, making access much easier. We keep all of our meds, like aspirin, Ibuprofen, Claritan, and others, as it's easy to access in the center of the coach and while driving.

I've lived with it this way until the last trip and realized it only took about 20 minutes to just flip the door and have it open the way it should have, with the hinge on the left. I drilled a new hole for the knob and used some wood dough to fill the old hole which is now up high and hardly visible.

I know this is a silly mod and maybe Newmar reversed the install on other models, but it's soooo much easier to access and see what's inside. It's also easier to access the GFCI without fighting the door.

I like the idea and may give it a try. Now can you come up with a lighting mod so you can see yourself in the mirror? Iíve tried supplemental LED strips to the sides and they didnít help.

Simple mods sometimes yield the most utility! Our bathroom door handle is a lever-type, and I ripped 2 dang shirts getting caught on it when walking through with the slides in. Finally pulled the handle and positioned it vertically rather than horizontally. no more snags.

Good idea Don. Tomato, I replaced that mid bath door handle right before our last trip-one of the best $12 mods to the coach. Those levers will skewer you.

Yeah....I put a round knob on that door as it kept hanging me up by the pockets.

Could you please post some pictures of the changes? We have the same model and year and I also find the door very difficult to get into the half bath. TIA

The procedure is pretty simple. Remove the four screws holding the two hinges in place. Flip the door and change the knob to the opposite end of the door and reinstall. The latch (catch) ended up hitting the shelf, so I moved it up a couple of inches. I used wood putty on the holes left by the hinges, latch and knob.
