Dutch Star 4018

From all I have been able to find the DSDP 4018 is only available with 2 15K air conditioners. I don't see the option of ordering a third one. Is this correct? If you can't get a third air conditioner, are two enough for the Texas heat?

I think this was answered last week and there is an option for the third unit with the upgrade to the 10kw genset. If I ordered a new 4018, I would definitely add the third unit. Our DS is well insulated, but we are currently camping in 100+ temps and could use the additional AC unit. We are able to keep the coach in the 72/74 degree range with shade, but if in direct sun, I'm afraid the two units could not maintain those temps.

I echo MoBlue's comments ... +1 to the 3rd unit

When we ordered our 2014 4018, we were told by Newmar they could NOT install a third air on a 40' unit. This was from Newmar engineering. They said with the ducted system, 3 a/c's were less efficient than 2. Needless to say, we were very disappointed! That being said, our coach faces the west at our home. At 95*, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the unit cycle! Checking inside, the inside temp was 72*. Admittedly, it was warmer up front in the cockpit area. I still haven't figured out optimum air flow and circulation to make the living room as cool as the bedroom!

I had this very discussion yesterday with Ma Snart who is camping with us this week in upper Michigan at Traverse Bay RV Resort. They bought the 4318 in 2013 when we bought our 4018. We were told that we could not get the third air but would have ordered it if we could have. Ma was told by his dealer -- Midway in Grand Rapids -- that although he could get it with the longer layout, he should not get it unless he would be in the south for extended periods of time. He took the dealer's recommendation as his travel does not extend for long periods into the south.

That all being said, I definitely hanker for the third air. Being in Florida at River Bend for four to six months, I feel it would be a definite plus for us. We have adequate cooling most days, but when it hits the mid 90's, the two stock units -- nth 15K -- are challenged to keep up -- that's our experience. To me, this is one of those options that would definitely be worth the price to have it if you use the coach the way we do.

My two cents.
