Electrical Problem

I have a 2002 DSDP, I hooked it up to a 30 amp 120 outlet at my neighbors residence utilizing a 50 to 30 plug. All in the outlets work in coach except the microwave. I turned on the Generator after disconnecting the AC power and the microwave worked fine. I just purchased this and knew it worked fine with the Generator but never hooked it up to AC power. I'm perplexed as to why it's not working. Maybe the plug? Someone had mentioned an invertor might be bad on another site. Thanks for any replies.

If it was the inverter, more then just the microwave wouldn't work. Inverters often power a few outlets including the TVs.

There is a circuit breaker on the inverter. Look down in the compartment for the inverter and see if it has breakers. May be lever or pop out type.

If all the outlets work fine but not the microwave, my suspicion would lean towards your 50 to 30A adapter not correctly applying your 30A power to both 50A pins. It would depend of course on how the coach is wired and if all the outlets are for instance on Split 1 and the microwave and maybe the HVAC is on Split 2.

Breakers appear fine in the box, I do have to check the fuses that I observed on top of the inverters. I'll do that in the A.M. If fuses are fine, I'll get a new adapter from Amazon.

It is most likely the power management system shedding loads since you are on a low amperage shore power source. The microwave uses 1,100 watts (~10 amps). If the inverter is on (as it should be) it is using some power, the lights are using power, the batter chargers are using power, the refrigerator is using power... that doesn't leave enough for the microwave.

Wil H, would that cause no power to the outlet that the Microwave is plugged into?

Depends on how it was set up. Power management will take away power temporarily when there is an overload. But when the overload is gone it would come back on. I think ours is set up to shed Air Conditioning first. So you can cook with a stove top or microwave by turning the AC off for the duration of the power to another device.

My guess is that this is not your problem.

In our 2023 NADP, I've done testing to verify what we can run on 50A, 30A, 20A, generator and our 960Ah of lithium batteries.

During testing, while on 30A, I found that we could run our front air conditioner but when the front A/C wasn't running, I wasn't able to run the rear A/C.

I ran a test later, after the coach had been plugged into 30A for a while - and the rear A/C worked.

After more testing, determined that the Silverleaf Load Shedding was placing a higher priority on charging the coach batteries than running the rear A/C.

The priority appears to be: 1. front A/C, 2. coach charging, 3. rear A/C

So if the OP isn't able to run the microwave when first connecting to 30A, check to see if the coach batteries are being charged. If that's happening, then turning off the charging (temporarily) should enable the microwave to run.

I've reported this issue to Newmar - they should have battery charging as a lower priority.

This is a 2002 year coach. The inverters used during that year group would more than likely trip a “push to reset” breakers on the inverter. Power mgmt system have dramatically changed in 20 years. Would recommend you get on the Newmar site for vintage coaches and communicate with owners who have an early DS

I did not see this mentioned. It was mentioned that the rear AC was probably on the 20amp line of the 50a plug. Check to see if the rear AC works. If not then your 50a to 30a dog bone is not wired correctly.

There is no 20 amp line in a 50 amp plug, both lines are 50 amp.
2 50 amp lines with the potential of supplying 100 amps at 120 volts to the RV.
