Engine Access from Inside Coach

Unfortunately I have an issue with my exhaust manifold leaking. A new gasket is on the way and the biggest install issue I see is access. For my 06 MADP is there a way to gain access from the closet area inside the coach. Tearing out the closet area seems like a drastic step but likely much easier than the tight fit from the rear hatch.

Thanks!

Usually the floor of the closet is easily removed and you gain access through there.

Look up at the top of the engine compartment from the rear engine door and see what looks removable.

One thing I found with my rear rad Freightliner chassis was that in addition to under the bed access (I have a N-S bed setup) that there is an air dam attached to the top of the rad that gives much more light and access to the top and sides of the engine. It was silly of me to try to do all the work from the top of the engine changing my surge tank w/o removing that. Once I noticed it only had 3 bolts holding it on and took it off, it was a DOH! moment. And I was already half finished with the uncomfortable work. Removing that simple piece of metal gained much hand, arm, elbow room. Not to mention giving good views of the sides of the engine. A small step ladder aided the work back there at the rear of the RV.

On my previous 02 Dutch Star there is a wood panel that is attached with Velco attached to the back wall and it's also attached to the bump in the floor. Under that is where you can gain access, but have to remove a few screws as well.

How does the engine access cover come off inside the coach? I don’t seem to be able to find any screws to remove it.

I have the big walk in closet on my 4362 so the carpeted access cover is right there. I’m not sure I want Cummins trying to remove it for my appointment on the 16th. I’d rather I can at least know how it’s done.

I did post this on the fuel rail recall thread but, this seems more appropriate.

I would like to know as well. Have a Cummins appointment in September for the same thing.

Do they have to access the engine through the inside hatch to do the fuel rail recall?

Thanks all! I follow most of the ideas here, but a few I don't understand without pics. But it definitely sounds like there's access from inside coach, so over the next few days I will go out and explore the possibilities.

I am good at tearing things apart but not so good at putting back together as found, so hope I don't go too far, lol....

PS do I need to remove closest doors and mattress?

Does your setup look like the picture? If it does then the Wood Panel against and at the bottom of the closet is the one that is Velcroed to the wall. The carpeted rise on the floor will come up also. You do not have to remove the closet doors or the mattress. If it doesn't look like the picture then take one and post it here.

Thanks! My setup is pretty much the same. Will attempt destruction soon.....

It's been a long time when I removed mine on the 02 DSDP. I believe there are bolts holding that lower portion down as well. Take your time and look for those bolts on the floor portion. Tip might be to look into the engine compartment and you can see the backside of this. Look for bolts extruding out for a hint of where they are inside. Good luck.

Quickly ran into obstacle. Looking from engine side looks like the panel maps to the raised area on the inside. But can't find and bolts holding the inside raised area down and can't get my breaker bar underneath edge to pry up without a LOT of force. Inside the closet will not come up without damage. Will continue pondering approach and hoping continued direction from this thread.

Visa via removal of the exhaust manifold:

Several days before attempting to remove it, soak the exhaust manifold to head and exhaust manifold to turbo bolts with a good penetrating oil. Several applications.

Broken bolts are time and $$$.
