engine compartment fix

This is my fix to the engine compartment opening while rolling down the road. This should keep the hatch from banging into my bikes on the back. I have ordered a new plastic latch but this pin should be a good safety mechanism to alleviate the cover from opening when you don't want it to.

Howdy, I can't tell from the picture, is that a detent pin? Does it have a ball or plunger to prevent it from coming out of the hole?

no ball or plunger. just a 6" threaded rod with a well nut and axel cap on the top to pull it up and out of the hole I drilled. It's long enough to not be able to wiggle out of the hole.

Looks like there is room for a clothespin as a keeper. Just a thought. Too bad about the drilled holes.
