Entry Stair Lights

I have done everything I can think of to try to turn off the stair lights. I thought they went on/off with the opening and closing of the door. They won’t turn off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ours come on when the door is opened and will time out and go off. However, they come on and stay on when the ceiling lights are on.

On our Canyon Star the interior stair lights are controlled by the porch light. I haven't paid attention to what controlls the exterior stair light

Do you have the patio light on? With our coach, the stairwell light comes on with the patio light.

I didn’t have the patio light on, but you gave me the idea to go turn the switch on and off and it finally dimmed off. Hmmm, I wonder if it was on, but the bulb outside isn’t working. Will investigate tomorrow. Thank you.

Thank you ousallen and Ken C for the helpful and quick response. This has been driving me crazy for hours. I feel silly that I didn’t realize there is a relationship with the patio lights and stairs. Learning something everyday.

On previous year models, when you open the coach door, an overhead light would come on. I don't know if they still do. What I didn't like, was that it illuminated the front of the coach, every time you entered or exited. Sometimes you just don't want a light to come on.

Several years ago, someone came up with a fix to add a switch to turn off the lights that came on as you entered. I did it to mine. There is a box behind the dash that you need to access. Right now, I can't recall all the details.....been four years. Someone even diagrammed how to add the switch. I added it to a blank switch in my dash. I left the overhead light off, unless I really needed the extra light.

Maybe someone still has the wiring diagram or remembers the instructions.

Here is a link to the post I was talking about. It's a KIB box behind the dash. Unfortunately, the wiring diagram has timed out in the post.

Glad you got it to turn off. On our coach, the stairwell light also comes on every time the door is opened and stays on for about a minute or so before fading out. If yours is the same, you may have a failing timer unit. Hopefully, it will be something simple and easily fixed.

Are you still at Camp Newmar? If so, that would be ideal as you could have the service guys check it out.

The patio light switch turns my inside stair lights on, the outside patio light on and the light in the exterior entry grab bar. The exterior step light is hard wired into the step system and comes on when the steps are operated. The step controller turns it off through a timer function. I actually added an LED light under the steps controlled by the patio light switch so there is a step light on whenever the patio light is on.

Yes, I'm still here at Camp Newmar. It is going on and off normally now, but will ask them to check it Monday. My patio light seems to be working correctly too. 🧐

Blame it on the poltergeists! They are devious little critters.
