Essex potable water pump

Potable water pump is leaking and cutting out in my 2006 Essex. Does the covering panel need to come off in order to get at the pump? Hoping to find a loose fitting...

Welcome to the forum & irv2.
This is what you may find behind the panel.

You should be able to service the pump without moving the "white cover plate". Look up at the right side just behind the panel and you should see the pump. We have had ours replaced with the panel in place.

All you have to do is unscrew the 4 screws holding it onto the wall. Just cut the 12vt leads and the Hose connections have a lever on top. it's kind of hard to see, and you just push up on the keeper and the hose fittings pull out out. Don't unscrew anything. Replaced mine this year with the same brand but the 5 gpm unit and makes a lot of difference. Got the pump thru RVUPGRADES.COM

Also there is an inline filter screen attached to the inlet of the pump hat's probably stopped up. Just unscrew and flush out.

You want to replace the AES pump with the ARV.
Here's a picture of my old pump so you can see the disconnect slides for the water lines.

Also, do yourself a favor and get a 1-2 gal hot water expansion tank for about $30 from lowes or home depot and put it in a line after the pump. Keeps pump from banging on and off. I just put a washer female to female hose and attached it to my outdoor water line.

essex potable water pump

Thanks for the help. It looks like I have a leak on the outside of the pump somewhere (drips from wires at bottom) and without being a contortionist to locate the leak, I thought the white panel had to come off. When the pump runs, it struggles because of an air leak...at least that's what it sounds like.

Could be a broken plastic filter on the inlet. I think if you take the 4 long Phillips screws loose on the pump you can pull it down a little a watch it run before you disconnect the hoses. Could be o'rings on the hose fittings. Probably though the pump diaphragms gone. Is it the original?

Have you tried a mirror and a flashlight to look up at it?

I found the leak in the pump. In the joining area about 2 inches below the top of the cap. I could take out the 10 screws and remove the cap but without knowledge of the pump, I think I should just replace it. You sure have been helpful. I wouldn't have got this far without your help. Thank-you.

I think if you get the upgraded pump you'll be happy.

I have one more question, if you don't mind. I located a new water pump...a 55 Aquajet-ARV. It's 5.3 GPM BUT 10 amp? Do you know if a 10 amp would work since my old one is 6.5?

Exactly the one I replaced mine with. No problem. It runs off a E_plex relay.Just clip the wires so you don't have to get up into the relay and kerney them to the new pump. mines an '06 Essex also.

Thanks Perry...I might have running water tonight yet! I feel dumb asking, but when you say "kerney" the wires to the new pump, you're saying to "splice" the wires after cutting them?

Yep. Two blue insulated BUTT splices or wire nuts.

Make sure you take that filter on the inlet side of the pump apart and clean it or just back flush it.
