EST Fuel MPG

Hello all, I have a 2002 3872 DSDP, It has the 3126E 330 HP Cat. I have spoken to a few people about what to expect for fuel mileage. One that I put a little weight behind, and just wanted to put out here what I was told I should expect. This comes from a NHRA team member. I should drive the coach in the range that gives me the MAX torque of the engine which is for this model 1800rpm. At this RPM, and 63 MPH NO wind, Level ground, moderate acceleration, tires aired to 90/105 and towing a lightly loaded 20 foot trailer in the neighborhood of 7MPG. What have the members experienced. I have a 7K trip planned for this summer, and planning.

Hi, Eric.... My coach is very similar to yours, loaded to GVWR (31K lbs) and about 4000 lbs of toad. I cruise at 17-1800 RPM, and that gives me about 63-65 MPH. Over three years and about 20K miles I have averaged 7.4 mpg.

Good Luck!!

That's about what we got with our 2002 DSDP 4090 with Cummins ISC 350 and Banks kit towing our Ody. I always used 7.5 for estimating fuel usage.

Interestingly enough the present Magna weighs 50,000#'s and has an ISX 650. The VMS shows an average of 7.6 mpg so far. The actual usage is higher though as both the gen and the AquaHot are diesel.

I had a 2001 DSDP 3852 with a FL chassis and a 300 hp CAT 3126. I bought it with about 37K miles on it and drove it 10 years and put another 90K on it. On my VMSpec it showed birth to sale mileage of 7.9 mpg for that 127K miles. I towed a 5K weight Jeep Grand Cherokee all those miles and drove with cruise on 90% of the time and drove about 62-63 MPH almost always.

I had a 2004 MADP 4301 400hp Spartan chassis with tag pulling a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I averaged 7.5 to 8 mpg for 5 years. I recently traded to a 2014 MADP 4369 with 450hp Freightliner chassis (with over 9000 miles) with tag pulling the same Jeep and I am getting 6.0 to 6.5 mpg. Big disappointment. I really thought I might get better fuel mileage or at least the same.....not 25% less....😂

Give it some miles. It takes 25,000 - 30,000 miles or so for the engine to loosen up and the mileage to come up

I'm with you. Towing our F150 (6K), we are averaging about the same 6.3 over 6K mi. I now use 6.0 for budget purposes. I did a 400 mi trip w/o the toad and it didn't seem to change much.

I have about 21K miles on my 2014 VTDP 4377 with the 400HP tuned ISL. My mileage since birth on the dash is 8.1 mpg. I believe I will eventually get to maybe 8.3 since more recently I have seen this. I do drive at 60-61 MPH religously though. I tow the 2014 Jeep GC almost all the time.

Thanks Mr.D. 😬. I guess I'm just going to have to get out there more often....lol Do you really think I will see a 33% increase in fuel mpg in that timeframe? Or do you think they are just pushing the envelope on the ISL to 450hp and resulting in poorer mileage?
