Exterior Paint Touch-up

We had a neighbor last week not secure their portable awning and the wind blew it up against our coach putting several deep scratches the exterior paint. Anyone with experience or advice touching up scratches with the Newmar touch-up paint kit would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I received a touch up kit from Newmar and used it just the other day. The small samples have a squeeze tube with a small brush in the end. be very careful and squeeze gently, alot of paint will come out quickly. I did a very small amount at a time with about three applications to fill in my scratch without it running down the side of the coach.

If the scratches are "deep" and noticeable to the point of bothering you (and, I would probably be bothered if it was my coach), I would take it to an experienced body shop and have it fixed. My experience with touch-up paint is that it is very difficult to make a decent repair. The repair usually looks as bad...or worse...than the original scratch.

This is the kind of thing that insurance is for. I would ask the neighbor to have their insurance cover it.

Do keep your touch up paint in the fridge to last a lot longer before drying out. Tip from Newmar parts department>

I've not done so yet, but there are quite a few YouTube videos on scratch repair. Basically you need to slowly, carefully fill the spot just a little above the existing paint. Then use a buffer to level it out. Then finish with wax. Sure looks great in the videos!
