Extra Towel Bar

Has anyone added an extra towel bar to the glass shower enclosure?

I would like to add an extra towel bar (to match those used by Newmar) on the glass shower wall next to the stool. It's not clear how the Newmar towel bars were installed, but I would certainly like my installation to look as close to the factory installation as possible.

Would rare earth magnets (like those used by MagneShade) hold a towel bar? How about JB weld? Any other better ideas? Or, is this a job that should be done by the factory?

Thanks!

Rear view mirror adhesive should work well.

Use Command strip hangers. They make a nice nickel finish. You can attach them to the shower glass at the back end on the outside. No drilling, no gluing. Pro tip..for towels the 5lb hook is best for towels.

Best answer.

And if you don't like the appearance on the back side, use another one inside the shower.

I've done it before with proper bits, but for some reason have not worked up the nerve to do mine.

Going commando strips seems like best option.

Noooo, don't try to drill the glass. The shower enclosure glass is tempered and will shatter the minute you try to drill it. Only annealed glass can be drilled.

As I stated...I have yet to work up the nerve, but it can be done. The evidence is the holes already drilled for existing towel bars.

Redbaron:
It can't be done post tempering. The holes are drilled in the annealed glass before its tempered. All fabrication is done on the annealed glass then it is run through the tempering furnace.
That being said, if the OP wanted to order a new lite of glass with holes in it, the fabricator could certainly do that and deliver a tempered piece of glass with the appropriate holes and locations.

Above correct for tempered glass. DO NOT attempt to drill even with a diamond bit. Those bars linked are for replacing an existing bar in a pre drilled door.
Stick on is the only way unless you replace the door.

The previous owner of our Bay Star an expandable tension rod across the top of the shower unit. We added a second one, and I added permanent supports which prevents the rods from sliding or coming loose. The supports are screwed into the walls above the shower enclosure. I use one bar to hang up a bath towel, and the bar closer to the doors is used for wash cloths. Our bathroom is so small that there wasn't anywhere else for an additional rod aside from the back of the door.

I would drive the MH to a professional glass installer and see if they can do it.

I attached a standard bar that looked as close to the Newmar one as I could find. Just used Silicone caulk with the bar taped into place for a couple days. Can't use it as a grab bar, but it's been there holding towels for almost 3 years.
