F53 vs Workhorse

I am thinking about a upgrade from my 2003 Scottsdale to a Canyon Star on a F53. Is there anyone that has done this? I love the 8.1 / Allison and am afraid I will be unhappy with the. F53. Power? Trans? GRADE descent? Mileage? Problems, Thanks!

I would wait to see if Newmar builds on the new Spartan gas chassis next year. It has a larger engine with an Allison and air ride suspension. If you own a Workhorse I don't think you will be happy with an F53.

Is there any particular reason why you are choosing to stay with gas power? My changeover from Workhorse gas to Spartan diesel (even entry-level diesel, meaning ISB engine, rear radiator, and without independent front suspension) was a quantum leap in performance with a 40% fuel economy improvement.

ps: My former coach was a 2003 Scottsdale 3670 on a Workhorse W22, like yours.

Mostly $. Guaranty in Ore. Has a new Canyon Star 3856 in a floor plan we love for 129K. We would love to go to DO but have to buy 8 to 10 years old to stay in same budget. We are also considering upgrading the interior of the SD and keeping it. We are studying it all at the moment as we are 1.5 years from doing anything. Thanks for the response!

I can't imagine anyone not liking the V10 and F53. I'm a Chevy guy, but I sure like my F53, as do many many others. I really like how you can adjust the sway bars which really improves handling.

I am very happy with my CS on a Ford chassis. This is my third Ford F53 , second with Tow Haul, which works well in the mountains, up and down. I did add the 5 Star Tuning which makes a surprising difference. I have over 7K on this RV driving through several mountain ranges with No issues. MPG towing the Toad is in the low 7's. My last
coach MPG did improve after 9000 miles on the engine, only to the high 7's mpg.

WE love our new CS... I have several threads posted on this coach. Here's two.

Thanks for your reply! I have read through both posts and enjoyed the comments. There is certainly a lot of innformation to digest. I continue to bounce back and fourth. I am very happy with the WH, but would like to upgrade. Your post are helpful.

We just returned home yeesterday after 3 months on the road with our 2013 Canyon Star 3940. We love this coach. The F53 did a great job for us. It was literally our first trip out in it and we did about 3000 miles. While it is not an air ride diesel it was a very very good ride and the v 10 did everything we asked of it. We moved up from a modest Class C so, for us, the difference is noticable. The mileage pulling a toad and much of the time using either the dash a/c or running the gen to power the rooftop units was about 6.5 mpg. Everyone's likes and dislikes are different but, for our money, we're happy Canyon Star owners. Good luck with your decision.

P.S. Our 15 y.o. mini longhair doxie (Peanut) loved it too.

I am glad you had a good trip! Thanks for the post. Your mileage towing is very similar to our 03. We are in the middle of a two week trip camping and visiting friends. The 03 is running great. We should just do the cosmetic upgrades and be happy. Our Doxies love to travel to!
