Fantastic Fan Upgrade in a 2017 Dutch Star

We have a 2017 Dutch Star 4369. I want to upgrade our bath exhaust fan to enable reverse fan and variable speeds. Fantastic Fans offer a 7350 fan upgrade package that provides a remote control with variable fan speeds, reversing, and rain sensor on/off switching. The kit appears to be an easy install without any major modifications.

My question: Will this work with the Newmar installed fan being operated by the multiplex (for lack of a better word) light switch. It seems the fan upgrade kit will work as long as the wall switch is in ON.

And, has anyone upgraded their fans?

We upgraded our main bath and kitchen to the fantastic fan with remote, reverse, variable speed, etc. works with wall switch off. The remote controls it all.

Does yours have a speed dial?

The Fantastic fans in our 2015 Dutch Star have a dial marked 0,1,2,3 which controls the speed. (0 is open but fan off). If you're tall enough to reach it, you can use it for speed control. Is your coach new? If so, you might want to spend some time in it before you go to the bother and expense of making the upgrade. We've lived in ours full time for a year and a half and find we want the back bathroom fan on high almost all the time. When we don't, we want it entirely off. We haven't felt the need to have a handier speed control or a reverse.

Yes, our fan has three speeds. When set to the lowest speed it draws grey tank odors from our shower drain (see previous post about Hepvo value issues). I am hoping the fan upgrade will enable a very slow speed so not to draw the drain odors. And, reversing the fan direction will be helpful as well.

As an added plus, the fan upgrade has a ON/OFF on the rain sensor. Our Newmar installed fan would not operate on humid days so I had to cut the wires to the rain sensor. The fan upgrade kit will allow me to turn off the rain sensor on humid days.

The question is whether the upgrade kit will work with Newmar's light switch wiring. Evidently Arizona Lizards has the new light wiring in his 2016 and it worked for him.

Now if you had just bought a Ventana you would have all that (except reverse) as standard. Ours has 13 speed settings and 13 temperature settings, which I actually use a lot. Can't think I would ever use reverse. And I can turn the rain sensor on and off. Not strictly necessary as I now have Ultrabreeze covers, but the sensor did save the day when I pressure washed the roof and forgot one of the vents was open. The sensor closed the vent before too much water got inside.

I am surprised that what we have in the Ventana is not standard for the DS. We love the temperature and fan speed control features.

I changed the bathroom fan in our MA to the thermostatic, reversable upgrade kit you mention.

Yes, it will work with the silverleaf wall control. The wall switch only operates the lid motor, on or off. When switched to "on", the lid opens and trips a switch on the fan to turn on the fan motor. In other words, the wall switch controls only the lid, and the lid, when opened, turns on the fan motor.

It took a meter and some figuring to rewire the new upgrade kit, but once you figure it out, it is simple.

Our main reason to upgrade was to get the thermostatic function and the reverse function. I diconnected the rain sensor since it prevents the fan from operating in a steamy bathroom..... duh!!!

Thanks for the information. Does this mean you had to change the wiring on the upgrade kit?

new fan

I am haveing a Maxxaire 7000k fan installed in the rear bath of my 2016 DS 4018
When the dealer installed the Maxxaire cover on the rear bath fan because of the
cathedral ceiling the cover sticks out about 3 inches above the siderail and awning. It is noticable.
Fan has electric open, 10 speed fan, thermostat, built in rain sheild, intake and exhaust, remote control. around 265.00.
Just another idea to thow out there.

The 7350 fan upgrade kit has the same features and costs $150 on Amazon.

Didn't have to change any wiring, but had to figure out how it worked first.

Then, cut the wires coming from the wall switch (to the lid motor) and then unplug the fan motor harness. Remove old unit. Re-splice power leads to lid motor (from wall switch), then reconnect plug to fan controls. Mark your wires before you disconnect anything to be sure you know which wires go where.

I'm reciting from memory, but the main thing is the lid motor wires coming from the wall (2 wires) were butt spliced and I had to cut them and resplice to the new unit. Everything else is straight forward.

The 7350 upgrade kit still needs a fan cover. The maxxaire fan doesn't. It is built in. Take a look.
