Fast Idle

Why is this happening? Normal?

When placed in neutral, the engine idles at 1250 rpm. I noticed that today each time I stopped for a rest break, and again when pulling into our CG. I donít think it was doing that before.

Not normal. When you set the engine to idle at high idle, that is to high. High idle should be around 1,000 RPM. Check engine light on?

This engine has two different fast idles I can call on. One at 1000 and one at 1250.

Just got off the phone with Freightliner. I continue to be impressed by their responsiveness.

Turns out to be normal when the a/c is running.

These new machines are worlds apart from what Iím used to.

Yep....mine goes to Fast Idle when ever I'm in neutral and the A/C is on. When you have the A/C on, the engine fan goes to HIGH and stays there, consequently causing the fast idle to come on. If you can remember, especially in a campground with dirt roads, turn the A/C off while moving the coach to your site. This turns the fan off of HIGH and you'll stay cleaner and the neighbors will appreciate it too!
