Fiberglass Roof Oxidation is Making a Mess
I own a 2017 Newmar Ventana with a fiberglass roof and am having significant oxidation with white streaks going down the sides. I have not had this severe of a problem with other motorhomes that I owned. The roof was waxed in February and it obviously needs to be done again. The paint on the sides looks excellent, it is just the white unpainted part of the roof.
Any suggestions on products to use that would last longer than 6 months? I hate to spend a lot of time treating something you don't see. Any thoughts on having the white portion of the roof painted or clear coated?
Thanks

Frank, a lot of owners including myself use 303 Aerospace Protectant. Widely used for protection from UV rays etc. Use also on tires or anything rubber.
For sale on RV Upgrades.com, best price I've found. Just spray on a clean roof and wipe, like you would Armour All.
I have no advice about clear coating, and haven't heard of anyone doing that. Not sure, may work, don't know.
Best regards.

You might check on Line-X. It's used as a bedliner for trucks, but could be a great sealer. I've used it instead of replacing a vinyl roof. You could probably get a 35' done for $800-$1200. Multiple color choices & textures. Comes with a lifetime warranty.

Yeah, I forgot about that wimpy, good point! A guy could have it applied with as fine or coarse a texture as desired too. One thing's for sure.......that stuff (genuine Line-X) is indestructible, and as a sealer, it's PERMANENT. The stuff is incredible, I've used it on many things, even wood. I did hear someone bring up the factor of weight in another thread once. Not sure how it would actually affect the roof weight wise? Think about say, 40ft by 8ft approximately at what, 3/16 thick minimum.....how much weight is that?
I don't know, perhaps it's not an issue.

Ordinary wax and 303 need to be applied frequently. NuFinish lasts about a year but if you want a more permanent coating you should try a marine deck paint. Needs some work to do all the prep, but will last and be non-slip.

Have used for many years on 3 different Newmar's 303 which if clean when first used, last a year. We do put 303 a couple times a year on the area between side wall and roof since this area is were you see clear coat damage. Use it also on the whole coach and all other vehicles we own. 38$ a gallon at Wal-Mart on internet. Can do our London Aire in 2 hours with about a quart.
