Fisher Paykle Dishwasher Surprise

We have had dishwashers in our last 3 motorhomes. Since I do the dishes, I am particularly fond of this appliance. We also have a Whole House Reverse Osmosis system in the MH that has kept the dishwasher looking new, as there is no water spots or discoloration inside of the dishwasher.

HOWEVER...we have had our current Mountain Aire a year now and I discovered that I had never cleaned out the “trap” in the bottom of the dishwasher. I also found it’s tricky to remove and replace the trap, as there are very small Alignment Marks.

I failed to take a picture of the trap before cleaning...but trust me you didn’t really want to see that picture anyway.

Consider this a reminder to clean out your dishwasher trap!

So here’s a couple of photos.

We really like our dishwasher, plus it has a second use. We boondock quite a bit. To conserve water we hand wash dishes. We use the dishwasher as a dry rack to get the wet dishes off the countertop.

Of course when we've got access to water and shore power we use it as a dishwasher.

We appreciate dual use devices and this one has worked out great.

We love our dishwasher. It is the perfect area to store all of our heavy pots and pans!

But seriously, if we do ever start using it I appreciate the tip on cleaning that trap. I would have never imagined there was one.

The first couple times we tried ours, it would not empty all the water out of the bottom of the dishwasher. The manual advised cleaning the filter- that did the trick and it’s done fabulously ever since. We love the dishwasher; something we wouldn’t have ordered and didn’t think we needed. We use it all the time. 😎

Don’t get me wrong. I love the dishwasher. Like others it is one of our favorite options in our last three motorhomes.

Fisher Paykel

I called Fisher Paykel and asked how much water each cycle uses. I was told that all the cycles use the same amount of water, approximately 3 liters.
The difference is the amount of time
I don't think I could wash the dishes by hand using less water.
The call center is in New Zealand. I loved the ladies accent. They are very helpful. If you need to call, their number is (888) 936-7872
The filter can be a pain if you don't see the alignment marks.

We also love our Fisher Paylel and use it regularily. We knew it saved us by using very little water. We only assumed it to be a gallon, so 3 liters is even better. I doubt that dishes can be sucessfully washed by hand in 3 liters of water.
Great tip on the strainer too. We'll investigate that. ........Thanks!

Dan.....great tip on the strainer. I guess we should read the operating manuals a little more thoroughly on some of these things!

We wipe all the food off of the dishes that go in the dishwasher, just to prevent grease build up in the tank. Even so, I'm guessing some stuff can slip by and end up in that strainer.

Dan,
You just gave me something else to do today.... I have never cleaned the filter ( didn't know it was there) and we use the dishwasher all the time. It works great and as others have said uses so little water.

Thanks Dan,
I found quite a bit in our strainer that was the remnants of a jar label. We won't talk about who pulled that stupid stunt. Thanks for the heads up, I haven't read the manual yet. I am glad this feature is there. Will be checking regularly.

Not a problem... when I went to check ours out at the storage lot, I found ours to be quite different. The strainer has a thumb hole on it and it just fits into an opening on the floor of the unit. So, a simple tug and out it came... I just had to give a slight tug on no debris to speak of and I just pushed it back in. I guess they changed the design since our is a 2013
