Fixing bad ceiling rope lights?

Our 2004 Newmar Mountain Aire DP 4016 has factory 3/8" LED rope lights across the ceiling at the edges of the ceiling panels and one of the light spans has stopped working.

I have lived with these for a while and know all about hitting them to get them to restart. But, I have tried lightly knocking it with my knuckle to pounding with my fist. It worked before, but not this time. The whole span is out, not just a shorter segment. There are two spans on the light switch, just one of the two spans on that switch does not work.

Last year, one of the ceiling rope lights in the bedroom stopped working but I was able to access the electric connection in one of the upper cabinets and was able to cut off the old end and rewire it and it still works fine.

The bad rope light span in the living room disappears into the outside wall on each side above the top of each of the two opposing living room slides. I don't have any idea how to get to the electric connections? I am not at the point of just trying to yank the rope light out of the top of the wall, but haven't thought of a better option. Has anyone ever fixed this problem?

Any assistance would really be appreciated!

Can you access the ground or common wires? can you determine if there is power in the wires that you can get to? If no power is present and you cannot find out how to get it there then yank, lightly, and replace. Presumably one side is just tucked away to hide the terminated end.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, that didn't take long. I don't know if I fixed it or not, but I got it working. I figured I would take some pictures.

It stopped working a month ago and at the time, I pulled away the crown molding on one side and saw the rope go into the wall, or thought I did.

The first picture is a working light span going into the wall.

I pulled down the crown molding again and the rope light takes a sharp bend and goes above the ceiling (second picture). I pulled the rope light about 1/4" and the light came on. At this time I have not pulled it out farther to actually get to the connection, but for now it works. Click image for larger version
