Flexsteel Captain's Drivers Chair

We have a 2013 DS 4318 we bought about 2 years ago. The drivers chair never felt quite right while sitting in it but I shrugged it off. We knew when we bought the coach there was some slight damage to the molding on the front of the full wall slide obviously from closing the slide while the drivers seat was to far back.

I was under the chair tucking in some wiring the other day and realized the was much more damage than previously thought. Apparently when the slide contacted the seat back it did it with enough force to bend the frame of the chair. The 2 pieces of steel flat stock the chair uses to bolt to the platform now has waves in them.

The fix was to place a piece of 3/4" thick wood between the chair frame and the platform for the chair and then 4 washers front and back also on the right side where the chair slide bolts to the pedestal. So a little over an inch lift on the right side to get it somewhat level.

The flat stock is welded to the base and the base is welded to the chair. Which is going to make this almost impossible to repair. Fire, grinders and a welder along with foam and fake leather don't mix well.

Anybody been down this road before? I may end up just letting sleeping dogs lie.

DKRITTER,

I thought our 3113 BayStar (no longer have it) was the only model with this problem (I would call it a design issue). Several of us performed this modification to both allow the driver seat to go back several more inches as well as to help prevent the slide from taking out the seat (which some said happened).

See this thread:

Post 232 on page 17.

Not sure if this is a possible modification for your DS, but thought I would toss it out there. It worked for us and was not that tough to do.

Terry

Flexsteel had delimitation issues about the year of your chairs. Check around different shops that traded out the bad chairs for some others. Bet you can find a base without too much digging.
