Flexsteel Foot Rest Worm Drive Failure

We have a 2015 Ventana with Flexsteel pilot and co-pilot chairs. Today the foot rest on the co-pilot chair stuck in the up position making it nearly impossible to safely get out of the coach. Upon further inspection one of the two worm drives was not turning. A quick call to Flexsteel customer support confirmed my suspicions. The motor was good, the cables were all working as designed, one of the worm drive assemblies was broken. The coach is barely 2 years old so I was surprised by the part failing so soon. It is only a $30 part and should be in my hands in a few days. Taking the old/broken one out was easy (under an hour from start to finish including the call to Flexsteel) and necessary to get the foot rest down. I expect the install will be fairly easy as well. I have not found any posts in the Newmar forum about this problem on a Flexsteel but did find a few on the Villa chairs. I am hoping we just got the one bad worm drive and this is an isolated problem. Any thoughts or other experiences with this failure on a Flexsteel would be appreciated. As always, thanks in advance for your comments. I hope to see many of you in Sedalia at the Rally.

13 years of ownership of a '02 DSDP and no troubles with the Flexsteel chairs. Two years + experience with Villa chairs and no problems yet.

Flexsteel Foot Rest Worm Drive Failure

Runaway4002, thanks for the reply on my recent thread http://www.irv2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=360060 with the EXACT same issue on a 2.5 year old 2015 Ventana 4037.

It really is a safety issue. I had to remove the broken part so that my wife could exit the MH. It's quite a reach over that footrest down to the first step.

That was us exactly, a 2015 Ventana 4002 (same coach as yours except kitchen is on driver's side). We stopped at a rest stop and could not get it down. It is a big step over and down to get out with it stuck in the up position. In an emergency not sure the DW and I and the three dogs could have got out in under a minute. Let's hope we just got the two bad worm drives.

UPDATE. I received the new worm gear in a couple of days. Install took just a few minutes. Recliner is working like new again!
