Freightliner “High Idle” Question

I just noted a difference in the 2019 chassis vs. older FL chassis I have had and wondered if any of your coaches do this. According to FL … it was a change they made maybe 2 or 3 years ago … my last model was a 2015.

1) When you are at normal idle and hit the cruise button to go to high idle … it jumps to maybe 1,000 RPM … which is what I am use to.

2) But this is the new part to me … when you are at normal idle and hit the dash AC compressor button … it jumps to maybe 1,300 RPM. Anybody else's do that?

On our 2015 VTDP FL chassis we first depress the on button cruise, then the set button to activate high idle.

FLSteve,

My 2019 does the same thing. Mine will high idle upon start up without setting cruise or turning dash AC on. Set on the brake and it will idle down until I let off then it will idle back up. Dealer said normal.

My 2018 Ventana does that also in Neutral. Placing the transmission into Drive will drop the idle.

Steve.....yes, this is normal. It's also something to think about when driving on a dirt road through a campground....turn the A/C off to keep the fan speed down and the dust storm it can create on high.
