Freightliner Recall FL856-B PDM

Has anybody else recieved another recall notice regarding the PDM saying the parts are now available. When I called the Warranty Campaigns Department they still have the old recorded message saying the parts are not available, waiting for a call back.Mine was inspected in 2019 and passed. Now the notice says they will inspect and and replace as needed. Do they know what the heck they're doing.

Mine was replaced a year ago when it tested bad. I've heard that may have been an old model. I need to go to Freightliner and get the scoop...is there a newer version.

That's what I'm trying to find out Don. It's hard to get to talk to someone at the warranty dept. If you didn't get a recall notice FL856-J you're probably good. it was mailed out Sept.30 2021. or look up your vin#. I have no indication that mine is bad. I don't want another inspection if I have to make a trip there, I want it replaced.

Yes they know exactly what they are doing. If you had an understanding of the 60+ on board systems the PDM interfaces with, controls or monitors you may appreciate how complex these anomalies can be…..

Unless you are experiencing a failure in an on board system you shouldn’t be concerned according to Gaffney…on your next routine service they can test it in less than 30 minutes…..

I got one,
It’s my third recall on my Freightliner chassis.
I haven’t gone it yet.
1. Dash unit
2. Fuel rail
3. PDM
What’s next?

I'm not concerned. I do my own service so I don't use Freighliner for routine service unless it's for warranty or recalls. It's an all day affair at my local Freightliner dealer. My point is it was already checked and passed so why would they want to check it again. The recall notice says parts are available but the recorded message at the recall number says parts are not available, go figure.

Mine was replaced in 2019 under recall FL788-B. Today I received recall notice FL856-B for rear PDM. Unclear why I received this since it was previously replaced.

Mine was also checked a year or two ago and passed….but has recently been sporadically not working. I have my yearly maintenance in Gafney in December where I will be getting it replaced.

Btw, I also got the letter yesterday.

I received the letter so I called local FL dealer to be sure my vin is listed. It is so they said to bring it in to be checked, not necessarily replaced. I went through this once already in 2019 and it was checked but not replaced. I asked if it is a stock item as I do not want to get caught up in supply chain issues like nearly everything else on the planet. They said they have no way of knowing as there are 10 different possible matches for my PDM. I think I will leave well enough alone for now.

I received a call back from Freightliner Recall Dept.today. He left a message saying this is a new recall and even if I had it checked or repaired in the past I will still need to bring it back and checked again.

Good info.....I'm going to take mine in and try to get the dash, PDM and fuel rail all done in one shot. I know that may stress them out, three recalls in one day.

My favorite, I make an appointment, get there at 8:00am, they move to the bay and don't start work on it until 4:00pm and then rush it out the door at 6:00pm.

Sounds just like my dealer...... Exactly. Funny thing is I was just there a week ago to have my Def header replaced and a tag axle leaking seal fixed. Spent 2 full days there. Now back I go.

Mine was replaced in 2019 and not part of the recall and just received the most recent recall notice.

Is it any wonder these things fail, you would think anyone with half a brain would know sitting a plastic box full of solder connection just above a Muffler/SCR system that gets to 1200 deg during regen MIGHT cause a problem from heat.

I think this will be a ongoing forever problem, just like the DEF tank that sets 4" from the back of the muffler most likely contributing to the DEF head sensor failure.
