There is no "correct" answer to your question.

If you only get clean fuel, store it properly (biocide and full fuel tank) your fuel filters will last a very long time.

One tank of bad fuel or poor storage can clog several sets of filters.

If you have the clear bowl primary fuel filter, visually check it next stop after filling. That will give you a pretty good indication if there is water, dirt or algae in the fuel.

If all you have is a drain on the primary fuel filter, occasionally drain a little into a glass jar and check it for contamination-- dirt, water and algae are heavier than diesel and will settle in the bottom of the fuel filter.

But with your engine, if filters are clogged/restricting fuel flow, it can lead to expensive fuel system repairs. Suggest erring on the side of over-servicing rather than under.

Good response from Brett. When I bought my first DP new, I was going to do everything I could to make it run perfectly for years. I was putting on about 7500 - 10000 miles a year and changing EVERY filter, from the air dryer to fuel filters to the air cleaner once a year. I was doing my own work, so it was just the price of parts. After about 6-7 years I realized I was wasting money.

I now keep a written log and change items on different schedules as needed. At minimum, I run two years on the fuel filters, but I always have a set on board and KNOW how to change them.

Hi everyone. Been reading about oil changes. We just bought our first DP in January and will be changing the oil after our next trip to Texas. I am interested in buying the Fumoto oil drain valve. Does anyone know the thread pitch of the drain plug on my 2019 DS so I can order the correct one ?

Thanks for helping

First, you need to know if all engines, of the same brand take the same drain plug. Those that sell the Fomoto Valve may very well know. I believe I got mine from a vendor on Amazon if that helps.

This is the one I used for my 2019 DS with the Cummins 450 ISL (L9) engine. The threads are what you need, but you can get different configurations of the valve, straight nipple, bent nipple, no nipple, etc.
