Fuel rail recall was a total bust

Cummins in Tampa did the recall today. I picked the coach up and started the two hour drive home. Didn’t make it. I realized when I got on I-4 that something was wrong. No power. I drove a few more miles and it was obvious that something was wrong. I decided to take the next exit. When I found a place to pull over I got out and headed to the rear. Immediately realized diesel fuel was spraying everywhere. Nice. I’m just glad it didn’t catch fire.

Cummins Tampa was closed (5:00) so I am stuck till tomorrow. Coachnet will tow it in the morning.

I’ve heard of others having a similar problem with the repair.
I can’t say I could recommend Cummins in Tampa.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear that. It’s always frustrating when “professionals” make things worse than when they started. Happens all too often.

I also had fuel rail pressure regulator issues. Was on my way to Transwest in Benton, MO on Dec. 1st. I was about 20 miles from there and i had check engine lights come on and reduced power. After warranty work was complete i picked it up yesterday drove about 20 miles and some thing. Took back and hooked it up to a computer and said fuel rail issues again. Left it there and come back home we will see when it is ready for pick up again.

What a shame…I have to assume they split the fuel rail when replacing the 5 cent injector O rings, which is what the original recall was all about. Hopefully they will be able to find a fuel rail, as last month there was a 56 day backlog. Unless you see evidence of a fuel leak, think twice before jumping into this recall. If you take your coach in make sure they have a fuel rail in stock!!

Actually, I would push VERY hard for them to send a tech to you.

Towing a DP is a choice of last resort.

Another idea for anyone thinking of having this done is insist on accompanying the tech for a test drive

Wow, that is just wrong. You can't even rely on the tech to not make things worst. I am sorry you are going through that.

It’s 2:30 in the afternoon and still no tow. Not a good day.

Oh no!
This is terrible.
I’m so very sorry this happens to you.

I just called today and my local Cummins Shop says there are no replacement parts if they break the actuator during the check. He told me there is none in the whole world of Cummins Parts he even checked Asia and Europe.

So I have to wait to bring in my unit, if they break the actuator it is non-drivable.
I have trips planned and already drove this thing 28,000 miles without a leak. You can see it from the rear of the motorhome if you know where it is at. It’s dry as a bone. I will do the recall when they get the part.

I am really upset at Cummins about this crazy fuel rail issue.
One Rver had his sit at a Freightliner shop for 3 months waiting for the part that was broken during the check. He lost all last summer RVing

Towing a DP is a choice of last resort.

Have you asked: do you have the part (assume you have identified and perhaps even have a picture you can send them)?

Have you come close to demanding that they dispatch a tech to install it where you are?

If I could tell, I would. But it’s not easy to see with a diesel fog.
