Can a paper style "home" furnace filter be added to the cold air intake on our motorhome's furnace? The intake is below the refer and has no protection except wood loovers with appx 1 -1/2" horizontal gap spacing.

Thought the supplier would not recommend this due to clogging but wanted opinions and practical advice.

Why are you considering doing this?

The bottom line is there needs to be a lot of air moving to keep the furnace from cutting out. Any filtering may reduce the volume of air.

Thanks for the reply.
To filter the air and minimize dusting from the carpet.
I understand the sail switch, over temp etc. - just looking for practical experience

No filter is needed. If you install a filter it will decrease air flow and can damage the furnace.

First let me ask do you have an AquaHot/hydronic furnace or a propane forced air?

You'll do better with an external air filter of the HEPA or electrostatic variety. Then it can run all the time. You seem to understand the messing with the propane type forced air furnace air flow concern.

If you have a hydronic you can do whatever you wish to the registers all the way to plugging them up with whatever you want. No issue - except the fan motors (depending on the register) may not be able to drive air through a filter.

You may have to remove the wood panel baffle at back of furnace when doing your spring cleaning to remove any dust or lint from dogs, cats what ever, to clean the slots in furnace openings.
As most have said not advisable in blocking the louvered vent under fridge with filter, it will only cause you more problems with your LP furnace.
