Furniture Recliner Base Stability

Our coach came equipped with an optional pair of swivel base recliners. When traveling, the recliners have a tendency to move about slightly on our tiled flooring as well as not evenly seating to the floor when pulled out and away from the wall for use (for whatever reason). They also tend to "snag" on the FWS vinyl trim/seal when being pulled out and away from the wall.

The recliners are Bradd & Hall's Lambright series wall huggers and have a freestanding ring type swivel base which utilizes 4-small crosspoint positioned hard plastic round stops (feet pads).

My purpose of the post, is to to learn what others whom have similar recliners may have done to improve the stability of the ring base, both when traveling as well as when using the chairs.

With the VTDP we have carpet in the full wall slide so we don’t have this problem, but I wonder if you could place recliners on a rubber backed throw rug? Or perhaps the rubber material used in cabinets so things don’t slide around. It would only need to be big enough to cover the base of the recliner.

Tom, I've considered doing exactly as you propose only see that it could be a problem to pull them (the recliners) out and away from the wall for use (as well as pushing them back) before traveling due to them holding steadfast in position by using rubber mats or rugs underneath the ring bases. Since they are swivel recliners, we have found it necessary to push them back up against the wall when traveling to avoid them swinging L/R or otherwise moving about.

I have also written to Bradd & Hall asking them if they (manufacturer) has a solution to offer us. (the recliners are still in warranty at this point).

We had the hard plastic round feet pads replaced at Newmar with oval flat pads. They are not perfect but don't do as much damage to the FWS vinyl trim. Newmar also replaced the trim while we were there.

Recliner

We had the recliners with the little buttons. The buttons will indent the FWS seal. We replaced the recliners with Lazy Boys with solid runners and put rubber backed throw rugs under the chairs. When we travel I turn the chairs sideways and roll the end of the rug up just enough to clear the FWS seal. The chairs are snug when sideways. The chairs slide on the rugs without the rug bunching up. So far so good.
Be safe.

We replaced ours with these. No Swivel! We still have to move them in and out when traveling but they are lighter and much easier to get the front over the rubber seal.

Are those the pinnacle chairs? And what color? We were at LB last night and don't remember that color!

"Steele", if you don't mind doing a little modification, grind the metal tabs off of the base. Should be easy with an angle grinder. Then take some heater hose with the same ID as the metal ring, slit the hose and slip it over the ring. Use tie wraps every so often to keep it in place. You might be able to glue it on with contact cement. When you need to move the chairs, just rock them side to side. That's how I move mine on my carpet, I walk it back into it's hole for travel.

Suggestion by one of the Newmar techs is to turn the recliners around when traveling, works well saving the back of the chairs from rubbing the wall or window surround.

We use rubber caster cups under the feet when stationary which keeps them in place on tile floor.

Our swivel recliners tend to rotate while sitting in them, was wondering if anyone has added tension to the swivel somehow.
