Gasser Handling Fixes
I'm curious about the way Newmar sets up their gas chassis units. I have seen a lot of threads about folks dumping thousands into trying to get better handling. None seem to be for Newmar rigs except for some short Baystar Sport models. Tire pressure is a known issue for all units. Other than that it would be interesting to know if anyone has added hardware and seen a significant change in handling. Maybe they do it right out of the box. That is what I am curious about. Thanks for any input.

I don't know about gas Newmars but I know they rework the chassis on some DP's. I tried to put an IPD sway bar on my '00 DSDP and IPD, after inspecting the MH, said Newmar had added extra frame gussets and their bar would no longer fit.
The '02 DSDP handled fine so, other than the new front axle and Koni shocks it worked great.

I have a 2016 BSS and for the most part it drives fine stock. Every now and then a passing truck will cause me to grab the wheel but not always and even then not a concern. I recently did as the "book" says and had it aligned after loading it with all our junk and at the same time had them do the Cheap Handling Fix just because of all the positive comments. I have not done an extended trip since so I have no feedback on any differences. I have also adjusted the PSI based on Goodyear chart versus what Newmar sticker says.
No way in my case would adding thousands of dollars worth of stuff be justified.

Mine drives great stock. The Ford tech where I have it serviced adjusts the tire pressure to 100 front and rear. I have driven it with 90-95-100 front and rear and really see no difference. Drive it for some time before spending any money.

Agree drive it before doing anything. Avid have you checked the Goodyear chart for your weights? 100 seems high for your unit. My 31ft checks out at 85F, 80r.

It depends on the area you live and drive, our 2016 3710 CS was scary here in So Cal. In the wind and in the hills it was a white knuckled. First mod was rear track bar and Sumo max on the front and dropping tire pressure down to 85psi. A big improvement but still not confidence instilling. 2nd round blue safe t plus and cheap handling fix on the rear. Drove on I 40 with crazy winds and it was much better but still not perfect. 3rd round install front Hellwig sway bar. Wow what a difference! Noticed right away pulling out of the drive way. I also purchased the rear add on Hellwig sway bar but am have a hard time breaking some of the bolts loose on the frame I will let you know....
I can tell you that before doing anything, it was almost not drivable on local roads but on a trip when we got into Az it was so much better....like I said I think this is why some say theirs is great stock. I have done all of the work myself and shopped the best prices online and have spent approximately $2500 for parts.

I think Stuart W has it right, depends where you are planning to drive. If mostly freeways and the like, it should be find stock. If you plan to do lots of smaller roads like the Pacific Coast (#1) in California, maybe you would enjoy a little upgrading. Side winds can also move you around, so if you are heading into known windy areas, upgrades may help there also. Good luck, and traveling should be fun!

I wanted to elaborate on shopping smart: the sway bars I purchased are made by Hellwig and have a lifetime warranty, the best price I found was $830 dollars for both including tax and shipping. Well Blue OX sells the same bars with the same part numbers under their name with a limited warranty 2 years? And they go for about $1500 for the set. I purchased the Safe T Plus from amazon but purchased the bracket kit from Camper world at about 15% less. Similar savings were found on the other components.. best thing to do is get the part number and Google it.
Another thought on the different perceptions on ride also have to do with load, we are weekenders and don't have to much loaded (60 % of storage bays are empty) full timers with more weight down low probably have an advantage on ride feel. The 3710 CS has over 5,000 pounds of cargo capacity and I bet we are at less than1500 pounds loaded.

I have driven on i5 10 and 8 in winds you would find difficult to walk into. Is the Bay Star more challenging to drive in those conditions? No doubt! Unexpected? No way!
Wildtoad,
My Bay Star has Michelin 22.5s. I dutifully ran 90 like the Newmar plaque said I should until I took it to Ford Commercial vehicle service center. I told the service advisor to adjust the tires to 90 and the tech set them at 100. Then he did it again when I was running 95. When I go in for my next service I will discuss this with the tech.

Other than driving is mist of a storm, no issues in 15K miles. During thunderstorm needed to slow down to 55Mph if I wanted to drink my Ice Tea while driving.
