That's why I got married!
Get some O-ring lube and try it.
Could also be debris in the valve recess...use wife's toothbrush to clean it out. Let her know later.
I just changed out both of mine...a little easier than one at a time.

All those who are grossed out by the cleaning idea obviously did not grow up on a farm wading barefoot in the cow lot! Good preparation for my late in life being a plumbing contractor, always got a kick out of the kids who gagged when we opened up the pump stations! It is just slightly processed food after all!

Works great, and no surprise when I take off the drain cap to attach the hose.

Exactly what I did too. Wasn't worth the hassle to access and fix the guilty part on our rig.

There is likely something stuck in the valve. If you can disassemble it, and clean it, try that. Also, they could just be stuck. Try lubing the rods that push the gate closed. I use silicon lube but almost anything should work.

You may not need to replace it
If you need to replace a valve it would not hurt to replace both, but it probably isn't necessary. Since you might need to remove the defective valve first check to make sure the four bolts are tight. Tight means that you can still operate the valve without leaking and that might be all that is wrong with it. There is a rubber seal on both sides of the gate and if your bolts are loose enough one of the seals may have shifted a little. In my 15 years of RVing I have had to replace only two gate valves.
If its the black valve, make sure you drain and rinse the tank before removing it. My guess is that a bolt has vibrated loose.

Dirty trick
Man up put on the gloves and do it yourself! Plenty of room after you remove the outlet manifold between the two valves!

Worth a try...........

Just replaced all 3 valves. 2 grey tank pull handles miraculously broke the same day I was dumping. Apparently upon manufacture’s installation the cable’s to all 3 weren’t routed properly causing cables to eventually bind and wear out and break. Did the WD trick months prior to cables breaking, worked for1 valve.
Eventually had a rv tank cleaning company clean my tanks. They use a hose thru RV’s main waste outlet, get it into tank, flush with hi pressure, then twist hose to get brass nozzle flipping and banging inside of tank thereby knocking the uric acid build up loose. I was shocked to see what came out of the black tank, as they flushed out black tank, you could hear what sounded like rocks was chunks of URIC ACID buildup in the black tank drain outlet. This stuff was 1/8” thick or more and hard as a rock. Some lose pieces blocked the knife blade from closing all the way.
All 3 valves replaced with cable’s run properly, all valves function smoothly.
A majority of tank problems are due to not enough water, inadequate flushing of black tank and poor routing of cables. Tank valves with twisted/braided cables are cheap, break easy. Get the valves with the solid wire cable.

Sometimes hard scale builds up in the pipes and pieces break off. Those pieces can damage the knife edge of the gate which in turn tears up the rubber seal (gasket). The only fix is to replace the valves. There are several valve makers, the main ones being Valterra and Camco. Either brand can replace the other. Gray valve is 1.5". Black is 3". The valves can be directly activated, have an extension handle, be cable activated, or electric.

It is really a simple procedure, I did both after about 15 years of service. Number 1 advice. . . .CLEAN YOUR TANKS and rinse rinse BEFORE loosening the old valves and wear gloves .

Bay Star 3113 (2017) has the black tank seal located in the middle of the passage which would necessitate floor removal to replace or repair. Obvious that the designer didn’t consider any maintenance issues. An add on gate valve at the outlet is only realistic ‘fix’.
