Generac Guardian 6500 Problems

We are new to this site & are glad to have found it. Our generator has stopped producing power! We have a 2004 Scottsdale Class A. We rarely use the generator but last summer used it all day while camped along the ocean. Kept us cool all day with no problem. The next day, it started right up & "purred like a kitten" but wouldn't produce any power. We've contacted Newmar who said it may be the transition box. We've had that checked & it's okay. Contacted Generac who made a couple suggestions. That didn't work. We've had it checked by 2 repairmen. One checked the voltage regulator. Another thinks the problem is the static windings. Finding the parts to repair it are difficult but we have found a repairman who says he can do it. Yesterday we talked to someone who has a Challenger rv. He was having the same problem with his generator. He was finally told about a breaker switch that he located under the floor of his coach. Flipped it & power returned! Before we spend thousands of dollars repairing or replacing our generator, has anyone else had this problem? Is there a hidden breaker? Or a possible simple solution? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe & Dawn

Generator Breaker

Yes There is a hidden breaker on Generacs. Why they're hidden like that is anyone's guess. They're usually on the back of the generator so you must feel around for it. I had the same problem as you did when we were on the road. I called a mobile mechanic and the first thing he asked is if we had checked the breaker on the back. I told him I didn't know there was one and he told me to feel around the back to find it and reset it. i did and it solved the problem. He didn't charge me but I decided to send him a gift card anyhow. You don't find too many mechanics around like that. Have fun finding it because it'not easy.

Wow, thanks for the tip...
I have a Generac on my 2001 DS...
Was told by PPL that they couldn't get voltage out after putting on a new carb...
She starts & runs but has a metalic rattle after it runs for a bit...
Wish I had rollers on it so I could pull it out for service...

A lot of bad reports on the Generac compared to the Onan...

Was about ready to order a new Onan for $6,000... Ouch
