Generator access door won’t open

Tried to open the generator access door. The door will move slightly but, it won’t open fully. If the DW gently puts some outward pressure on the door when I pull the cable I can get it opened.
It seems like there is excess slack in the cable as well as the part that is on the end of the cable that should move the latch continues to slip off.
Is there a way to adjust the cable? Is there a better attachment for the end of the cable that won’t slip out? Or is there something else wrong?

I am not familiar with this problem on motorhomes but have seen hood releases on cars do that. Many times a bracket had come undone allowing slack in the cable. That's what I would look for first.

Is the for the hood latch or the generator tray release? I have had the generator tray release not work and that required crawling under the front end to manually pull the release. Too much play in the pull cable. I retro fitted mine with a pull rope from the side compartment where the hood latch is. Now it is a straight pull only about 15" long rather than the 6' pull cable.

Hi - Those cables and latches need periodic lubrication with a dry lube. Also another trick to keep your husband from needing to crawl under the coach (unless you are mad at him and want revenge) for releasing the generator slide is to rock the generator back and forth while pulling the release. Some times the spring tension on the big spring behind the generator is more than the latch wants to work against.

No. It is not for the generator slide out tray but , that rarely works either. It is to open the front of the Motorcoach to access the generator and hot water line. The handle is in the small fuse bay below the drivers side window.
I maintain all this stuff and that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I have looked at other Dutch Stars at resorts during my travels and most owners are equally frustrated with the system. IMHO it is a poorly designed system for opening the generator access door and releasing the generator slide out tray.

Mine has done the same thing as yours and now on this trip it will not open at all. I have tried to take up the slack in the cable and thought I had it fixed. When I get it opened this time I will work real hard on a permanent fix.

I have had the same problem with mine. The fix was to adjust the height of the rod that the latch hooks to that is located on the base of the slide-out. My latch was making contact with the rod/bolt and interfering with the movement of the latch. I also found that the screws that hold the latch in place had gotten loose and needed to be tightened. It works just fine now.

Two fixes.....you can add struts like many of us have done and get rid of the stupid rod, or you can also add a cone shaped spring. Many coaches and cars come with them. If I recall, my 2014 had the spring. It's a cone shaped spring attached under the hood, that pushes it open. On my 2014, I had to pull on the spring to elongate it occasionally to push harder.
