Generator fuel shut off?

While at Nappanee last week for warranty work I had them service the gen.
Driving back to TN yesterday I decided to run the gen. It ran for a few minutes and shut off. I couldn’t get it to restart. Today I checked for fault codes and there weren’t any. I’m guessing no fuel but didn’t have time to drop the filter and check. Is there a fuel shutoff I’m not aware off?

I'm not aware of a fuel shut off, I at least haven't seen one. Did you check the oil....could they have forgotten to refill it. That will cause it to shut down.

On board generators don't have a fuel tank pickup tube that reaches the bottom of your tank - only to about the 1/4 level (give or take a bit). This is so you can't run out of fuel to drive the RV.

Could be it needs to be primed after they installed a new fuel filter. Press the start switch to the off position and hold it there -- you will hear the pump start running. Keep it up for 30 seconds or more and see if it starts..... now this assumes you have adequate ( more than a 1/4 tank) in your fuel tank.

Thanks,
I’ll give that a try. I assumed it was a priming issue the way it acted.

Tank and oil are full.

Mental note - Next time I have a generator serviced, I'll ask them to start up the generator and show me that it will run for five minutes before I sign off on the work. I've had generators hard-start after being serviced, now I think I know why. Thanks everyone!

With 2 different Onan generators I have had if oil is at the top line of the dip stick it will act exactly as you describe. Once I drain a little out, so it is in the middle of the lines it runs fine.

If your generator is on a slide, pull the slide out then try to start it to see if the fuel lines were pinched when they closed the slide tray.

This happens every time the fuel filter
is changed and the tech is too lazy to
run the generator after servicing it.
I think there is air in the fuel line and the
way to remove it is to continue holding the start button for 30 sec. to one minute
AFTER the generator starts. This removes
the trapped air in the line. Works for me
every time. The starter motor dis-engages after the generator starts so it

doesn't hurt anything.
