I was wondering if anyone has put an in-line gas shut-off valve on their generator. On some of my gas engines that I do not use often (portable generator, pressure washer etc.) I turn off the fuel and run the fuel out of the carburetor before putting these items away until the next time.
I know this would prevent me from starting the generator from inside the MH. I seldom use the generator and just wanted some other opinions.

Markie.. some of the models that I have worked upon had a shut off valve. Most of us use the simple winterize approach and if we are letting the rig sit for more than a week between uses... treat the fuel with STABIL...I use the STABIL MARINE type (purple) in my gas rig. It will help keep the fuel in decent shape for up to a year. Then let the genny run and pull some treated fuel into it. I keep the large sized bottle on board since I add about 12 ounces over a years period.
You didn't say what you have for a generator. Is it gasoline, LP, or diesel? If it's diesel you don't want to shut the fuel off and run it dry. Just leave it alone, diesel doesn't varnish like gasoline.
What I have heard from folks who know is that I should run my generator for a half hour every other month just to warm up the generator and keep it dry inside. Not running it is bad for the generator.
