Generator start battery

Off the grid today for the first time.

Is the generator starter powered from the chassis battery or the house bank?

I'm wondering if I can start the generator if the house bank gets run down.

Chassis battery for engine / gen. Start gen to charge house batteries. When full (goes to float charge) and will charge chassis batteries with the battery management system.

Newmar DP coach's are usually the chassis batteries for start of Gen, a gas coach the house batteries.
Battery charging is controlled by the B.I.M. System in a Newmar.

Bird system

Since I am going to the factory in april for a charging issue I found out that since the advent of the Silver Leaf system the charging is performed and controlled by it. The Bird system is gone. I spent several hours looking for it.

On my coach the house batteries start the Onan generator.

If I should ever accidentally discharge the house batteries to the point where the generator will not start I would use the "battery booster/combiner switch" and start the genset with the chassis battery.
However that has never been necessary in the 14 years I've owned, (and often boondocked in), my coach.

BTW, automotive jumper cables can be connected to the battery of a toad if for some reason you allow the discharge of both the chassis and house batteries.

When talking to Newmar technical assistance about my coach not charging the house batteries while traveling and wanting to know the location of the BIRD that my 07 MADP had or the replacement Precision Isolator I was told the Silver Leaf now controls the charging of the batteries. I will be finding out about this some more when I arrive for my service in April. I was comfortable working on the BIRD but this requires passwords to gain access to the setting up screens on the Silver Leaf. Anyone know the passwords by chance? I doubt it

The Bird maybe located behind a Velcro panel, 2007 coach, with some fuse panel in lower compartment driver side near your rear tires.
Look at page # 22 of this link.
Silverleaf info in QT's # 3 link.
