Generator won't start

Help Please, 2012 MADP 4336 with 63000 miles, 450 Cummins.

So when I try to start the Gen. It will crank but, won`t start with the chassis batteries. Adding the "Battery Boost" doesn`t help either ( 8new house batteries). It sounds like Low batteries while cranking it over, BUT, staring the big eng. starts with no problems. After starting big eng. and voltage comes up, I will try starting the Gen. again. It starts quickly then ...
So my thoughts are, chassis batteries (2019) are getting weak, but strong enough to start the big eng. on a short cable, and not strong enough to start the Gen. on a very long cable (approximately 40 ft.) OR dirty cable connection at the Gen. which doesn`t make sense to me, as it starts with big eng. power Your thoughts and experience needed. Jim 75

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere, but maybe coach battery GROUND issue, or GEN ground, some owners find. SOLENOIDS and the small RELAYS CONTACTS can also be the cause. MY OLD (94) little Nissan truck had INTERMITTENT*** SLOW CRANK issues for years that got treated w/ terminal cleanings, and new batteries, but finally decided wrong last year "must be starter", but NO, AND noT IGN switch, (which also got changed); problem was the little $10. CUBE RELAY on wheel-well under hood. ON GEN, can even be a little relay on the circuit board on GEN itself, if all else fails. (** Usually, after coming off interstate (i.e. HOT) and buying/ filling gas, would barely crank and not start, but after 3-5 more minutes cooling, would crank. start normal). GOOD LUCK..... and TIP: IF YOU EVER CHANGE A device (like FUEL PUMP) that has a small relay, also change the RELAY.

This may sound a little crazy but try turning the AC output circuit breakers off and then try to start it. There is another owner recently who had a weird failure of his ATS that had the effect of shorting one leg of shore power to the generator connections. So in effect he had 120VAC applied to the generator output. The net effect was just as if you had a 40 amp load on the generator and the starter motor could not generate enough torque to spin the generator engine against that load.
