Angry Girard Awning opening on it own

We recently stopped at a rest stop and after parking our DSDP, I opened the door and saw that our front Girrard awning was opening on its own. I had to step back in and open the cabinet and push the stop button and then the in button which retracted the awning. This has happened 3 more time, 2 of which opened into an obstruction and scratched the front of the awning. Does anyone know why this is happening? I tried to check the manual, but of all the manuals, this one seems to be missing. For our trip home tomorrow, I am going to unplug the two power cords going to the controllers in the basement.

Check to ensure you do not have stored items in you basement that are hitting to manual buttons. That would be on the passenger side rear storage area left wall. It is a white strip with several buttons. Also if you have a remote control remove its batteries just to be safe.

Your manual is on a DVDs disk, but not much help in trouble shooting this type of problem.

Both of mine were acting strange. I found that a box on the roof of my Country Coach had the control connections in it and there was " of water in it and the connections were partly underwater. Turns out the top cover was cracked and letting water in. Bought new boxes (couldn't find just the covers) and connectors, dried out the box, used some contact cleaner on the cable ends. So far that has been working great.

Girrard Awning opening on it own

As poster number 2 said, check your remote (separate white remote control from the black controller in the cabinet). This happened to me, but fortunately it happened just after I bounced the tub of remotes therefore more obvious to me.

On our first or second night at the CPU after I took the remote out of the little cardboard box it came in I noticed that when I closed the drawer with the remotes I heard a motor sound and it turned out being the awning opening. I turned the remote around and put it in the little wall mount holder the remote comes with. That stopped anymore inadvertent deployment. John

Like others have suggested, check the remote location. Secondly, until you know you've gotten a handle on this I'd unplug it in the basement to avoid inadvertent extension.

I was warned about this during delivery. Especially not put the white remote in your pocket when traveling. I later decided to change the channel on my remotes to channel 3 or 4 when finished with opening/closing. I do this for both remotes (the one in the cabinet and the white remote). On my remotes, channel 1 operates the forward awning and channel 2 operates the rear awning. Channels 3, 4 and 5 have no function.

I think it would be smart to unplug the control boxes in the basement before travel.
