Girard Nova awning problem

My front Nova awning died on on our 2016 MA. Pressed the button to extend and the motor started for about 1 second, then nothing. Checked the controller and it is dead, no red led light. Power is getting to the controller, as the rear awning controller is plugged into the same basement outlet and it is good.

Called Girard and they are sending a new controller, but I'm hestitant to install the new controller for fear a shorted motor may blow the new controller.

Anyone know how to test the motor to see if I have a bad motor, or just a bad controller?

Any update on what you found? One of mine awnings quit working. The controller's red led flickers occasionally. Calling Girard tomorrow but like you I do not want to blow another controller.

Per Girard, I hot wired the motor from the leads from the controller. No luck, motor was bad. Already had a service appointment in nappannee a month later so had it replaced. $900 later, all was good again.

An update on my front Girard Nova II awning. Arriving back to the coach after a 2 month stint at home, the front awning would not extend and the lights would not come on. The controller appeared to be dead, power indicator light flickering a bit but then died completely. I called Girard and they were less than helpful offering nothing in the way of troubleshooting or anything on the indicator lights. Yesterday I hot wired the awning motor (110 VAC) after gaining access to a junction box located in the bay and it came out smoothly and then back in smoothly. This confirmed my thinking that the controller is bad. Ordered a new one from Girard (pricey but not as bad as Newmar's price, $950 vs $1750) arriving next week. I estimate about 2 hours R&R plus time to sync both the remotes to the new controller.

We're on our 9th RV, first with Girard awnings, first with (multiple) problems. Bad motor, bad limit switch, broken guide cord, broken extension arm hinge pin, center bar sliding out and constant need to be readjusted. If there's ever a 10th RV it won't have a Girard awning.
