Girard Rear Window Awning Non Operational

The rear window awning on our new to us 2018 MA 4047 is not deploying when the drivers side window awning switch is pressed. The front window awning is operating as it should.

Called both Newmar and Girard. Newmar first directed me to Girard for troubleshooting assistance. Girard suggested I check the relays, but at the same time they informed me that Girard does not supply the window awning relays to Newmar and they had no information on the type or location of the relays Newmar uses to control their window awnings. Called Newmar back and they would not even tell me what type of relay they use or provide any info as to where the relays are located. Their suggestion: "Call a mobile technician." I asked for a wiring diagram. "Sorry, we can't provide that". Pretty disappointing first call to Newmar CS.

So I am turning to the forum!!! Any thoughts and assistance on trouble shooting the issue would be appreciated....

John, I had my over the door Girard awning quit.....burned out relay. I was at Girard and they told me it was a Newmar issue. Luckily, they had an old tech there and knew where to look.

There is a double duplex metal outlet box on the rear wall of the Oasis bay on my coach, passenger side. It has a flat metal plate for a lid. Inside were three relays, one for each awning and one for the over the door awning.

With that said, I don't think they power your window awnings, but it may be a start as to what to look for. Here are some photos. I do know there is a similar outlet box a few inches away, I've never looked inside.

Lastly, did you try switching the wires from the switch that's working to the one that doesn't? MAYBE, it's as simple as a switch.

Im not sure exactly what awning you are referring to as your rear window awning. Your front window awning, you state, goes down with the drivers side window awning is pressed. Is it your expectation that this rear window awning should also extend when that switch is pressed?

I am assuming by front window awning that is the awning in the living room/ dining area? Is the rear window awning you referred to in the master bedroom? If so, that awning has its own switch most likely located on the bottom of the cabinet at the window opening, in the back left corner.

Each awning has its own switch. Your bedroom awning switch is probably located in the bedroom. If it is like ours, look in an overhead cabinet near the awning.

Tizbad,

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction! I found the drivers side rear window awning switch behind the bedroom TV. It is located underneath the cabinet which the bedroom TV is mounted on. Hidden pretty well. With this switch the rear awning operates as it should.

Would have never thought to look there as Newmar CS insisted both driver side window awnings were operated together, by the switch that is in the cabinet above the drivers seat.

This forum is great

John,
You are very welcome. Im glad you were able to locate the switch.
Ours is inside in the middle of the rear overhead cabinet. I think we found it when we moved in back in 2018?

Thanks,
Stu

They hide that switch so that kids don't press it while driving down the road.

They hid it well as I had to ask my dealer where it was.
