Glass Half Full, or Half Empty

Maybe my glass is not full or empty, but it is the wrong size glass!!! We love our 2020 Dutch Star. We would love it more if it was home and not at the dealer all the time. I opened the form this morning and see yet another recall that looks like effects our coach. This one is the instrument panel issue. My first reaction is “Really!!” How is it a 9 month old to us coach can have so many recalls? This last one makes it 4 so far. I have had dozens of vehicles over my life and out of all of them maybe two recalls spread out over an easy 12 or 13 trucks, motorcycles, cars.
On the other hand, maybe I am being a bit negative and should count my blessings that there is a system in place that allows me to be notified and or updated with issues and their related problems. You experienced RV owners, (I have only had two years and two different coaches) can you tell me is this normal. Does the fun ever end? I guess this is just something I need to learn to live with when I decided to spend $300k plus for a house on wheels.

I think 4 recalls is unusual. I've had 3 new Newmar coaches since 2016 and I think I had one recall on our first FL chassis. For some reason my VIN doesn't show any of the current recalls, but then I just got this coach in late June...

Don't worry, be happy...

I look at them differently. First off, it only takes a few coaches to have something happen and force a recall, while there are thousands out there that will never have the issue.

Currently, mine has the original dash issue, too bright, that I've ignored, because we don't drive at night. Even if I do, I can deal with a bright dash. The fuel rail issue is another. I've checked mine for leaks, nothing. There was one for a wire possibly getting caught in the wiper arm mechanism. I checked mine, no issue, but I added a nylon tie wrap to the wire, to make sure it could never get caught in the mechanism.

This most recent, for the blank dash, I will take care of at my leisure. I figure I can get all three signed off/fixed at one time.

The only critical one I had was the power distribution module. I made sure the dealer had one, made an appointment, it failed and was replaced in about two hours.

So, unless it's a critical issue, I don't sweat them. These things are going to break, you can ether agonize over it, or just repair it and move on. I

I've had three diesel pushers in the last 17 years, a 2005 Monaco Diplomat, a 2014 Dutch Star and now our 2019 Dutch Star. In those 17 years I only left one of them at a repair shop overnight.....the Diplomat for one night locally and that was it. Knock on wood, I've never been left stranded or without the use of the coach. I will admit that I do most of my own repairs, so that has helped.

We had a 2015 Dutch Star 4018 that had 14 recalls on the Freightliner Chassis alone, put on 748 miles just taking it to Velocity Truck Service Center. We were there so much for those recalls that we qualified for tier labor rate of $99.00 per hour if we had service done! See our signature line for current coach, we’re very happy with this coach. Will be at Newmar for one last warranty item on 9/21/21, and don’t mind them accomplishing the recalls and me NOT having to pay for them on my own. Look up other makes and see how many recalls they have, then you decide if 4 is too many!

Half full or half empty glass. An engineer will tell you the glass was twice as large as it needed to be.
