Glendinnings vs. Shoreline vs…..Other

So the power cord reel made by Glendinngs, CRR50-12-150, failed internally. It took 1 day to troubleshoot that the problem was with the power cord reel. Power going into the cord reel was correct but the power coming out of the reel was way off, not correct and because the power was so far off it would not engage the automatic transfer switch, so no shore power in the coach.

So now I need to replace this power cord reel and I’ve seen some discussion about Shoreline power cord reels and wondering if I should stick with Glendinnings or do something else.

What do you think is the best course of action?

I recently replaced mine and I went with another Glendinning for a couple of reasons. First, the Shoreline does not have a cable guide on it like the Glendinning does. Without one it would be a pain when retracting, with one hand on the switch and the other wrestling the cable guiding it by hand when retracting. Secondly the redesigned Glendinning is alot beefier then the old model so that was my deciding factors. FYI, some failures come from moving the reel after its pluged in and power is on. Moving it causes the internal contacts to arc causing damage to the contacts.

When mine failed it was at 5am, smoke alarm in the electrical bay woke me, smoke in the Coach, basement full of smoke........
Decided I didn't need to spend 1k on a power reel for the amount that is generally pulled out, and coming close to having a fire......
Look at post 20 here https://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/war...ls-253465.html that is my electrical bay today........ sleep good at night now.

Have you called Glendinning? They have been in business for a very long time and just may offer assistance.

sramer is exactly right! Never extend or rewind the power cord once it's plugged in. It causes the contacts inside the hub to ark & burn! if one needs to adjust the length-unplug it- adjust- then plug back in.

Ask me how I know this???Been there-done that!!

My Glendinning reel will be 23 years old in August. Never a problem. Stick with them

Would be curious if the cable could be reattached and / or clean any corrosion off the reel contacts instead of replacing.

if replacing will the entire unit be swapped or just the reel then reuse existing power cable.

Cord Reel

From what i understand the Glendinning Cord reels can be repaired at the factory, then you can put your cable back on without buying a new one.

If you have been a boat owner you know Glendinning is the hallmark of engineering excellence and customers service for over 40 years. The other power reel options are Chinese crap. Stay with a Glendinning product. Call them at 843 318-0418.

You are 100% correct. I took my reel off & send it in to Glendinning & they repaired it free of charge & returned it to me in about 2 weeks. I paid to ship it to them & they provide you with a RGA form to accompany it. I just wired the power cable direct to the existing leads.

They are a great customer service company & give great service!

Happy Trails

On our 2015 London Aire it had "wear marks" that made a connection difficult, was getting about 80 volts on leg 2. It appears the result of the connection resting on the same spot on the real when the coach was parked at home. In August 2022 I talked to Glendinning and they said send it to them and they would rebuild it for 125 + shipping. Got it back and installed it and it was ready to go.

That was me glad i could help. We make most of our products so they can be repaired.
