Going to Nappanee...”must do” vs. “optional” tasks

What to have done at Nappanee?

We have owned a ‘07 KSDP model 3912 for 5+ years. The odometer is at 89,000 miles, of which we have put 40K on it. The rig is well maintained and have spent lots of money on various upgrades.

I am scheduling a trip to Nappanee this winter for a never ending problem with passenger side, kitchen slide out. Since Nov. it has blown 3 controllers, and a $2k gear motor. And it has never been cycled in an out more than 5 times between each failure.

My question for this group is regarding items on the Newmar, maintenance list. Which ones are “must do” verses “save your money”.

Here are a couple that I am not sure about.
*Torque Suspension 89K miles and no issues why mess with it, if it ain’t broke?
* Check engine support fasteners. same logic
*Weigh and check ride height. I have had it four corner weighted and ride height checked 2or 3 years ago.
*Check alternator, batteries, and starter. New AGM batteries 3 years ago....starter and alternator are working perfectly.

A couple of my “must do”
* Drain and flush the radiator
*Check and lube the side fan system
*Change fluid in differential
*Service air dryer

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions

Taller? Ride height is the air suspension system and alignment. The height determines the angle of the drive shaft between the engine and the differential. If that angle gets out of tolerance, the U joints will explode. There is a valve and lever system that controls the ride height. My question to the group is once it is checked, will it change?

Hi - Yes it can change. The rods that link to the height valves can get bent and the bushings can wear. How often you want it checked is up to you. If ride height was checked a few years ago and you don't feel any difference than it's a toss up. I have no idea how far you travel in a year or the types of roads etc. It's not hard to check yourself and the chassis manufacturer has the specs.

Hi,
If you have a Spartan Chassis I would recommend you get all of the above items services by them in Charlotte MI. In addition, have them perform the 44 point inspection for $140.00 and they will make recommendations on air bags, drive shaft maintenance, ball joints, etc. Charlotte is only about 2 hours from Nappanee. We visit Charlotte and Nappanee each year for our 08 Mountain Air.
Each is expert in their particular area.
