Good SAMs extended Warranty

I just purchased a 2014 Newmar Canyon Star 3956 with 6,700 miles and 33 hours on generator. I purchased the Good SAMs extended warranty with it. Was that a good idea? I didn't really know much about the GSW.

With any of these insurance policies, the odds are that you will lose money on the deal or they wouldn't offer it! I had a Good Sam and they delayed the claim for 2 days while they had a rep come to the shop and look at the problem before authorizing the payment. As new as yours is, I would guess you should have some factory warranties still in force and you shouldn't need an extended warranty yet.

I had a Good Sam warranty for a couple of years. Paid almost $2K per year with $500 deductible. Never used it because most things were under $500. A couple years ago I bought a 5 year/unlimited mileage warranty from ExtraRide through Wholesale Warranties for about $6,500 with $200 deductible. I have over 2 years left on the warranty and have recovered most of my costs in repair savings, so I have been happy I made the purchase. I would have cost me about $9,500 for the same period through GS for a higher deductible and I have had no issues with ExtraRide not authorizing repairs quickly. I would shop around.

I have a policy with a$100 deductible, and it also has a clause with the word "discretion " in it.
Waiting on a claim for road side replacement of a starter (in a parking lot). Claim was simple, starter died, roadside repair, from nearby service place got starter, got going.
CLaim rejected because I Did not get preapproval. No cell service for me or t he repair guy to get preapproval...... I asked for appealed the rejection and was tole they would have an answer in 30 to 45 days.
The brokers that sell these policies may have a little leverage. There may also be good policies from reputable companies. Whosale warrantee dealers sound like a good way to go. Never buy from a dealer.....I did and learned later.

We are here at Spartan Chassis and meet a late here with a Newmar and spent a month with Good Sam trying to get them to cover a chassis issue and they said it was a preexisting condition and didn't cover it. We hear at least 9 out of 10 owners complaining about their extended warranties then those saying there pleased with the service. At dealership sales can get up to 40% of the cost of the warranty. Don't think Good Sam any worse then most of the others.

first of all, your rig should still have an original warranty...that said, and extended warranty begins immediately which means the first year of extended coverage is useless!!

I have had the Good Sam coverage for two years and can't find a bad thing to say. They have replaced an air conditioning unit, exhaust manifold on the Cummins and for ball joints. Never a question or hassle. As a Matter of fact, North Trail RV in Ft. Meyers told me the wouldn't change all four but they did. Their road service is also top notch.

I would guess it probably effects all GM 8.1 liter engines in that year range, I just didn't look them all up.
Pretty much agree.
Only issue was replacing transfer switch. Wouldn't cover the total cost of TRC 40250 upgrade when orginal was obselete. They said they warrant the original equipment - even though no longer available. ??? There were others to choose from but I liked the idea of having surge, high / low voltage, open neutral and ground protection built into the transfer switch.

I cancelled the Good Sam Extended Warranty which was $6,000 for 48 mo. Coach only. I Purchased exclusionary Wholesale Warranty policy. $5,200 for 7 years 70K miles. Coach and chassis almost bumper to bumper coverage.
Feeling better about this. ☝️

A long profanity laced story made short. I had a GS warranty, cancelled it because of a mickey mouse refusal. Signed with XtraRide through www.wholesalewarranties.com Two months later the replaced part I paid for failed. XtraRide immediately paid for the fix. Ironically last week GS called to offer me another extended warranty, and wanted to know why I cancelled. I told the guy I didn't have enough time for me to go into it. And hung up.

I just got a quote from Wholesale Warranty and they where using Viking
Looked like a good plan and a good price. 10% off the total cost if paid in full

I purchased the good Sam extended warranty when purchased motorhome through camping world, so far its been great 50 dollar deductible if work is done at camping world or 100 dollars if outside camping world

We purchase a new to us '07 KSDP this spring. And purchased GS insurance with $1000 deductible. I bought a used coach, and I expect some issues. I got a great price, so some out of pocket for me is acceptable. I want protection for the big ticket items I see related to being a diesel. I plan to keep the insurance in effect for 24 months, and if nothing rears its ugly head drop it. In two years I should have a pretty good feel about the rigs systems.

I did the exact same thing in 2007 when we bought a '04 KSG, with a $100 deductible. We had a few claims, they got settled, but I really didn't like it went the replacement parts were rebuilds, not new.

I personally believe that once you know your rig, you are money ahead paying the premium every month to your own savings account. You control who repairs it, and the quality of replacement parts.

P.S. I am also a firm believer in doing all the maintenance required, on a timely bases. If I do replace something I don't replace it with lowest price. I want the best. "You get what you pay for"
