Goodbye Xite

Got tired of the Xite radio with its need to reboot at the worst times, having to pull fuses to get it to start up again and now with no map updates. Ordered a Kenwood DNR1008RVS from Crutchfield and after about 4 hours and a few or six calls to Crutchfield’s tech support, I am up and running. I had to order no extra parts, the original DIN sleeve worked to install the new head unit. The guys at Crutchfield helped me with changing the dip switches on the steering wheel control box under the dash so it would talk to the Kenwood. This unit has built in Garmin GPS (for RVs), 10 in screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, the 360° camera is actually visible thanks to the 10 in screen, and works with the XM satellite tuner that came with the old Xite. Oh and the steering wheel controls work. 21 Ventana 3709

I have no idea why some of the photos are upside down.

Let’s see if this oriented your pics properly.

I need to do something similar. Question: As you go down the road, how do you use your nav and have a view of your toad at the same time?

The screen to the left of the Kenwood shows my toad. The Kenwood has multiple camera inputs, 4 I think. I plugged the 360° view camera into the REAR INPUT rather than the VIDEO INPUT. The video input requires the vehicle to be in park to view anything. The rear input can be used while driving.

If you have the same Xite system I have, it will probably fit just fine.

Good decision. The Xcite is not very satisfactory and poorly supported. Ours went in the trash after about 3 months and was replaced by a mid rage Kenwood and a dash top Garmin 890. Much (much!) better!

In the SuperStar/Freightliner M2 106 dash, not sure there is enough room for that core... will have to open it up and see

The screen is incredibly sharper, the 360 camera views are crystal clear. If you have an xite, its not a difficult change out.

I have not seen one of these units in real life. I’m wondering how they mount. Is the OEM monitor behind it removed?

You remove the existing double din radio (xite) The housing mounts in the dash where the xite was, the screen protrudes and is adjustable to tilt whatever works best for viewing.
The wiring is basically color for color. The 360 monitor is a one rca jack connection.
If you are not handy, a car stereo company can do the install for probably $200
I did this exact radio two years ago. Absolutely a game changer for me. Crystal clear 360 views, apple car play. I can use waze, google, apple or rv life routing. I also use a Garmin 1090. This unit does not have nav built in, but the apps I mentioned are superior to xite.

Interesting! I absolutely hate the Xite unit in my Ventana. The screen is too small and is completely useless. My only saving Grace is that I ran a video cable from the 360 camera to my Garmin 1090 GPS which gives me a 10” view of the cameras.

Question: did the 2 wiring harnesses plugged in the back of the Xite plug directly into the Kenwood or did you have to splice wires? Here is a picture of the back of the Xite and it’s wiring.

Isn't Crutchfield worth their weight in GOLD?
They were wonderful to me too when I replaced my dash radio...
