So Garmin's lifetime map and travel updates are scam since the more accurate travel updates don't work without Smart Link or Drive?

I think you have completely misunderstood this. Updated maps and software is not the same as current conditions. In a previous post you commented how you had used google maps on a phone, that included current conditions. Your Garmin may have a current map but w/o Smart Link it can't have current conditions.

It's not a scam, you're just not using the tools Garmin is making available to you.

I'm out

My bad. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought the power cord with the bulge in the wire received current conditions while driving. At least, that was my impression when I purchased the unit. Was that a subscription service that was only one year or has expired?

There are two ways to receive traffic data, yes there is an option to receive it via FM radio, but there is no easy way to confirm you ACTUALLY have the proper receiver in a cord. I have one of those on my Garmin I use for the car, however I can confirm they ONLY work in LARGE cities, as you need to be within a short distance of a radio station which provides such broadcasts.

The MAJORITY of the time while driving the RV, (in small towns or out on open stretches of highway, this will not work) THAT is the reason Garmin provided the ability for your cell phone (which CAN access the internet the majority of the time) to receive this data.
