GPS with Bridge Heights, Narrow Road

Hello all,

We had our first low bridge encounter. Luckily we got out of it before anything could happen. There were no signs and our DS GPS has no use to us if it can't warn us of roads our rig can't go on.

So, what do all you others with tall rigs get for a GPS? We bought the RV Route app, but would prefer to have a standalone GPS.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thank you!! Stay safe out there, and watch out for low bridges! :-)

We use ALK CoPilot RV Version on Android tablets. The software if $50 and can be used on multiple devices. A real nice 10" tablet would be a little over $200 making a height and other limitations knowledgeable GPS unit for about $250. Not bad compared to a 7" Garmin with those capabilities.

How does a tablet work if you don't have wifi or a hot spot on your phone?

we have always trusted Garmin 760's Lifetime maps and traffic... has all the routing parameters you need. height, width, weight, etc....

it doesn't give you warnings because it doesn't NEED to, it automatically routes you around the issues.

HATE built in gps's :(

We have the Garmin truck GPS, with lifetime updates. You enter your height, weight and length. It will honor those limits when it plans the route.

It has never created any problems for us in 10 years.

ALK uses the internal GPS that virtually all tablets have. The map database is downloaded to the tablet. The tablet only needs to be online for loading the program and the database. Not many tablets that don' have WiFi built-in.

No different than a Garmin that needs a Internet connection for updates.

We have been using ALK CoPilot since 2003, first on PCs and now on Android devices. The PC version were Laptop Truck to have the dimension check for our Volvo and Travel Supreme trailer. With the Bounder, we get the dimension checks with the Android RV version.

We use a Garmin truckers GPS as well. Really like it and worth the cost! No issues either.

I use a Garmin 770. All my MH stats are in it and it directs me only down safe highways for my coach.

Amazon has a lot of complaints on both the 660 and 770. Says it takes them dangerous places, etc.

Could this be user error? Regional? There were a handful with the same complaint.
