" Greatest Hits of Nappanee"=== " FOOD"
This was brought to my attention by one of the "HOOT's"--Deek and Club members that we need a thread for some of the excellent food eating establishments and sites to see around the Nappanee area.
Many Newmar owners make at least one journey to the area every year and find something new every time.
We do have "NEWMAR Country" in the sticky "NEWMAR CORP" above but everyone's own input may make for some interesting reading and keep our bellies full with Amish foods.
I'm sure the thread may get long so if we do not repeat same locations would help. You will need to read.

Well ... thanks, 007! We'll start this out with two of our personal favorites:
(1) Athens Grill, Main Street downtown -- reasonable prices, great down-home cooking, clean, terrific service. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all super. We especially like the Grecian salad with gyro (lamb) meat and Greek yogurt dressing. It is a meal in and of itself and it is truly fabulous. We also like the regular gyro with lamb and the rice pudding. They have great omelets for breakfast, even some with Greek touches. They always have daily specials. Very nice, very friendly people. Many Amish frequent it as well so you know it's good and a good value.
(2) Martin's Grocery on Route 6 east of downtown. Yes, it's "just a grocery store", but it's really a lot more in our opinion. They have outstanding baked goods -- the Deek favorite being the custard eclairs in the morning for -- unbelievably -- .66 each! They also have a Starbucks, so for us snobs who have to have our coffee strong, snapping fresh and "just so", you will have a real treat at the Martin's cafe. For a small chain grocery, they have a really good selection of many items, and we have always found the prices to be very reasonable. Very nice deli case with daily specials. Nice meats and cheeses. Most everything anyone visiting Newmar in their coach would need or want to stock up on for their Nappanee visit. And there is a real plus to Martin's -- in the west side of the parking lot you will notice that they have a special area with hitching posts for the Amish who bring their buggies to the market and hold their horses in place while they shop. We have been there in all seasons and you will see many buggies parked there year round. Just fun to witness.

Since the Country Table closed, I tried the Hunter's Hideaway at a Newmar employee's suggestion and found the pork tenderloin very good. It's in the middle of downtown to it's best to have a car rather than the coach.

Corner Cafe - Wakarusa
The Corner Cafe is a bit of a drive to the north but we took the long way through country roads to see some of the farms. Good food, great prices, nice staff. In fact, our server's husband worked in Building 11 where my coach was getting some work done.
We had a ribeye that was OUTSTANDING and couldn't believe the price.

Hunter's Hideaway - went for lunch - had the Cheese and Crackers and Hot Chicken Wings with celery and carrots - We were pleasantly surprised. Service was friendly and food was excellent.

We ate lunch at the Main Street Roasters. Right in DT Nappanee. Quite good, fresh ingredients. Then have RS ice cream!

Went to Venturi's in Goshen last night. Pretty impressive, this place was highlighted on the food network channel. They make pizza in a special wood stove oven, salad greens are from local farmers and their mozzarella is made right there, very fresh cheeses. Price is reasonable and we will go back.
