When you purchase unit the models are either for hard wiring or plug into power box. If you have room better to hard wire.

The biggest issue is finding room for it. Once you do that, you need to remove the wires come from your power cord reel and go into your transfer switch. Those get connected to the Hughes unit. Then you need a short piece of power cord (available at Home Depot in the bulk rolls of wire) to connect from the Hughes unit back to the transfer switch. You need about a 4' piece of power cord.
The transfer switch wires and wire hold downs require that you really "crank" hard on them to keep them secure. Make sure you give the wires coming out of the transfer switch to the coach a good snugging before you close it up.
Lastly, if you want to do a custom installation, add a 50amp female outlet to the wires coming off of the power cord reel. Then make a cord with a 50amp male that goes into the Hughes unit. Come out of the Hughes unit with a 50amp female outlet. Lastly, make a third cord with a 50amp male outlet and that goes to the transfer switch, where you removed the power cord reel wires. This allows you to plug everything in, but if your Hughes device takes a hit and quits, you can just disconnect it and plug the transfer switch back into the power cord reel plug.

What Dutchstar Don said.
I bought the install kit from Hughes. I did have to move the "coil bucket" over a couple of inches to make room for the auto former.
After blowing two Penguin II units due to chronic low voltage, I am a definite fan of the Hughes autoformer.

we had to move the reel in ours over a few inches but it all fits nice in the 50amp bay of our Super Star.

I installed one last month. It was super simple. Just cut the power cord and put the surge protector in line. Guess I'm lucky to have room for it with no modification. I will say, Dutch Star Don's suggestion is brilliant. I'm going to take a look at changing my configuration.
The Huges app allows the protector to be monitored on your phone via blue tooth. It is kinda cool but has one annoying feature. Every time I walk out of range my phone flashes a message "disconnected". Spoke with Hughes (very nice people) and the only fix is to close the app.

Nope, just make sure your 110V shore power cord is not plugged in. Nothing in the RV will be affected.

Something else to think about.... If you hardwire one in and need to bypass it for some reason, or other, you now need to carry a female plug to make the wire up to, or you need to carry an extra wire altogether.
Why do I say this? I had one wired in place and it went bad at a most inconvenient time. Fortunately I did have a 50A female plug ready to go. However, rather than get the surge protector repaired (which the company said they would do under warranty), I elected to throw it out and replace it with a plug-in from Progressive Industries.
Just something to think about....

When installing in a configuration like Don mentioned above make sure coach is unplugged from the pedestal and that auto-gen start is disabled.
