Has anyone upgraded the shower control in their Bay Star?

The one in there is so sensitive (and cheap) and is easily moved if you bump it while showering. I have been scalded more than once. I know this was covered in a Ventana thread, but wanted to see if anyone has done it in a Bay Star.

Nothing special about rhe shower head. I've changed them on every MH we've ever owned, including the two DSDP's.

I am speaking of the control (on/off, hot/cold mixer) not the head, just to clarify..

My Winnie trailer had a cheaper 2 handle set in the shower. It was much easier to control. I generally had the cold on full and used the hot water faucet to adjust the temperature. It never got bumped or snagged in the shower hose.

It's possible you have the same shower mixing valve as the Ventana. I changed mine, replacing it with a Moen from Lowe's. Not a difficult project and the difference is night and day.

I found the thread for the Ventana shower control. The Bay Star shower valve is an cheaper unit mounted on the shower wall. Another post mentioned 4” spacing for the holes behind the valve.

Probably a standard home valve unit. Problem will be getting to it.

Canyon Star with the same prob.

Question, for those that changed there valve assembly themselves, how hard was the access?

Will be watching

I’m pretty sure the Ventana control is different (better) than the Bay Star. Maybe someone would be kind enough to post a pic of their stock Ventana shower control.

The Ventana shower control is definitely nicer than the Dura Faucet brand that comes standard in the gas models. I need to have some cracks from installation addressed and plan on asking if there are options to address this. My kids have bumped the lever already luckily it turned cold. If it goes the wrong way could be quite painful to a kid.

Just replaced the shower control on my DS, it was starting to look bad.
Replaced it with the same control. The BIG problem is that there is NO room to work behind the control, Newmar used exact cut tubing, none flexible , NO
extra length tubing, THAT STINKS ! Got black and blue marks on my hands.

Watching this thread.......

I requested an estimate to upgrade of shower faucet from Newmar.

I was told because of spacing behind the faucet, the whole shower surround would have to be changed.......!!!! What....??????

Normally, Newmar service gives great advice on upgrades but this was a shocker.

Need-less-to-say - the crappy faucet is still in place - I too am afraid of scalding to myself or the wife.

I am open for suggestions........and ideas.

Glenn,

Was it just the surround that needed to be swapped out? Or did they have to make the entire shower (pan included) smaller to provide more room?

On mine the surround is just screwed and sealed, so I can't imagine much labor to swap it out. But if they have to build out the back wall for more room and swap out the pan, I can see how the labor and materials would increase significantly.
