Hazard Lights

Don’t know if this is where I’m supposed to ask a question, just joined, not sure how to navigate yet. But here goes....we don’t believe the hazard lights on our 2002 Newmar Kountry Star are working right. When the lights are switched on and the brakes are applied the hazard lights go out. My husband drove a truck for years and he never encountered this situation. The RV has a freight liner chassis. After a month, we just got it out of a freight liner shop having all the fluids changed and general preventive maintenance done. The hazard lights was on the list of repairs. We were told by the shop that the lights were working correctly. Are the lights supposed to go out when the brakes are applied or should they continue flashing a warning as we believe?
